MomLogic - Line Rage at Disney World

Orlando Mom on being attacked by another parent on the Mad Tea Party ride at the Magic Kingdom.

Mom•Logic: What happened?

Aimee: On March 27th, 2007, my two kids and I went to Disney World. At the time, my daughter was 7 and my son was 6. The kids wanted to go on the Magic Teacup ride. When you go through the line for this particular ride, it's a single file line that curves as you walk around. Once you get up to the front, the staff directs you where to go. They shuffle the order of the line and open the gate for about 50 people, and it soon becomes a free-for-all to find a teacup.

Victoria Walker and her party were in front of me during the single file line. The cast member put several people in front of her, including the kids and me. She pushed her way through the line, screaming profanity. She was using the F-word and came up to where I was. Several people asked the ride operator to get security. A ride operator showed up and reminded people it's supposed to be a magical place and then walked away. Victoria Walker shoved my 7-year-old daughter into a metal gate. I told Victoria there was no reason to touch a child. She started cursing at me, using the F-word. I thought that was the end of it.

When the gate opened, I told the kids to go to the left and to stay away from the woman. I stepped to the right and let Victoria and her party go ahead of me. Once the girls got into a teacup, I went to check on the boys. I told the boys once the ride is over to immediately head for the exit and go straight to Michele. I was going to make sure the boys were situated and then head back to ride with the girls. Next thing I knew, I was on my knees, holding onto the teacup. Victoria Walker came up from behind and started beating me, kicking me in the leg and pulling my hair. She was beating me over the head, she hit my breasts, my knees were crushed and I couldn't get up. The beatings continued and she choked me with a lanyard around my neck. The attack felt like forever, but witnesses say it lasted between three and five minutes.

I heard my kids screaming, "Mommy's going to die" and I remember their piercing screams. Other kids were hiding their eyes, and finally, a man jumped over the gate and stopped her. Victoria Walker was there with her church group and her own 11-year-old daughter, and one of the church members pulled her off me.

Mom•Logic: What is your message to Moms?

Aimee: Never let your guard down, because if this can happen at Disney World, it can happen anywhere. I was just putting my kids on a ride and my back was turned. I hope this never happens to anyone else again. The laws need to be a lot stricter, so people will know if you do things like go into "line rage" and attack a person, you're going to jail. There are people who are nuts out there and you have to keep your guard up at all times.

The accused was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon. Walker declined to accept a plea deal that would have given her a one-year jail sentence, and is now awaiting trial. Jury selection will begin in April.

I wonder why the CM had people go ahead of the Walker lady? That seems weird..there's not a fast pass on that ride is there? I don't think she should beat someone up because of it but I still don't understand why the CM did that..anyone know?
Regardless, I can't believe someone would do that..at Disney of all places in front of those kids.

People can get REAL testy after waiting in long lines in the heat and crowds. I heard my own sister had a face off with a woman who cut her in line once waiting to get to A Bug's Life.

You've been on the teacups right? At the end of the single line, there is just one big area, and they call you down into a group . . . when the ride is over, they let half the group (in this area0 go on the ride and then the other half goes on the next. I really don't understand this lady . . . it's a 3 minute ride . . . so max she would have had to wait 3 more minutes . . . there must be more to the story . . . guess when it goes to trial it will be updated?

It goes without saying what a terrible situation this must have been. Some people are just nutts and unfortunately we have to share the world with them.

that is nuts! I do agree that there is more to the story but there is nothing that would be enough to react like that- I dont care what may have been said in exchange- there is nothing worth reacting like that in a place like that for something like that!

kind of a weird question: what was the deadly weapon that she beat the woman with? I read and reread the story, and she said she was "beaten over the head" and that the woman was charged with "battery with a deadly weapon". Did she have a cane or something?

i am guessing the deadly weapon was the victim's lanyard that the assailant chocked her with.

Wow, that is terrible. What is wrong with people? Its scary to think someone could have this much rage over something so inconsequential.

Yikes!! That is awful. The poor kids that had to witness this.

You know, this is something that has always bothered me though. The haphazard way that Disney loads rides like Dumbo, teacups,test track, etc,. where they tell everybody to fill in all remaining space, that seems to set people off. Of course, if you have been on the rides before, you know that everybody gets on, but, if you have not been, then, it is going to cause you to think there is no order. Nobody likes to feel like someone is cutting in front of them, or getting ahead of them. I think the system contributes to the rage. Lets face it, there are an awful lot of people out there full of anger and rage, it doesn't take much to push them over the edge.

I think some anger management is in order along with her sentence. I know some of the lines can be long and stressful when you have kids with you but come on make up a game try to have fun, your at WDW.

Thats a terrible thing to happen, but I have to agree with ddoll I think tempers fray more easily in the heat and the long lines and the crowds in the parks- not that this condones violence but I have witnessed some volatile situations particularly with character meets where people push kids ahead of the line and others protest.
We were once stood by the railings at Epcot watching Illuminations when two grown women crawled between our legs and then bobbed up right in front of us blocking our view completely-lets just say I asked them to move in a very Un-Disney like, un-ladlylike manner!
