Tropical Storm Fay

Has anyone heard if Tropical Storm Fay (which is predicted to reach Category 2 hurricane status) will be effecting WDW? Last I saw it was hitting the west coast of Florida near Tampa.

What kind of hurricane preparation does WDW follow?

Just wondering

Re: Tropical Storm Fay

We are waiting till tommorrow to see what they are saying. I am waiting until it crosses over Cuba and where it will go from there. At this point we may be in its path, but we are monitoring it till then. I would like to know the same thing. There alot of people here on MB trying to get there so I would be interested to know that same question. I would like to know if anyone that has reservations, how they go about handling that when a hurricane comes through.I would like to know what they do if you have booked through DVC. How do they handle someone who owns and books with their points or who rented with points.

Re: Tropical Storm Fay

Fay is not predicted to attain Category 2 strength, at least not by the National Hurricane Center.
The current predicted track (8 PM Sunday night) has it making landfall well well north of Tampa and it's path is not predicted to bring the eye anywhere near WDW.
We were at WDW during Wilma and they basically pulled all the pool furniture and closed the parks. Disney Transport buses remained in operation, even the monorails ran. I believe the boats ceased operation and guests were strongly suggested to remain in their hotels. The restaurants were fully staffed and remained open during the storm. Once the storm passed, they were able to reopen MK and Epcot fairly quickly, with The Studios and AK reopening the next day. Damage from Wilma was minimal as were the effects. I wouldn't expect any worse from Fay.
The flip side was returning home and finding many trees down, many roofs in the neighborhood damaged, and no power for the next week. (South Florida)

We're in SoFlo too and we did the opposite . . . Wilma his, and after two days NO POWER, we headed up to WDW . . . rooms were hard to come by as most people were doing the same thing . . . we ended up in the Buena Vida Suites . . . we didn't care . . . HOT SHOWER and we could do laundry! PLUS visit WDW during the day!

From what others have said, WDW is one of the safest places to be during a hurricane . . . they secure everything, and give their guests updates . . . the rain won't be much fun, but from the last track of this storm, I think FAY will just give Disney a bit of rain . . . not much else!

PIXIE dust to all the travelers!

From the way I'm reading things, the storm will make landfall east of you and east of the big bend.
I'm under a tropical storm watch right now, but I'm not thinking about clearing the back yard unless I see it making a turn to the right once it passes the Keys.

I already had hard plans for WDW. On the 22nd, I was surprising my wife with a vow renewal at Sunset Point at the Poly. Because of the storm, nobody was able to come up for it. Nobody was even sure when it was going to hit because it had slowed up a few times. The TV in the Poly's concierge lounge was constantly on Weather Channel from our check in on Wednesday all the way through when we left Thursday after the storm and I was constantly checking reports from the Hurricane Center with my laptop. We were dying with worry about how things were, and hanging on every report out of South Florida.
It was probably the worst, most worry filled vacation of my life and the surprise celebration I'd planned for close to a year was almost a total rain out with no friends or relatives to share with. Sure, we were offered the chance to reschedule, but how do you reschedule your 10th anniversary's actual day to some day months in the future? Especially once the surprise is lost.

Unlike Charley, which went right over WDW and who's eye went directly over a friend's house in Orlando! I still see damage in the woods around WDW from the three storms in 2004.

Re: Tropical Storm Fay

I've had my tracking map out and the current track (5 PM Monday) has Fay sliding past WDW about 12 miles to the west. Now, that's the eye, which means that Fay will directly cover WDW for a good 8 hours. The good news here is that the sustained winds should only be topping out at something like 45-50 MPH when it goes by. It'll mostly be rain. I'm guessing the closest approach will be around 6 PM tomorrow.
Side note: it's been raining almost constantly since about 9 AM this morning here in North Broward County/South Palm Beach County.

Re: Tropical Storm Fay

It is supposed to hit Cape Coral Tuesday 8 am. We're already seeing the outer
rain bands starting.
