From Wikipedia...

It has been rumored that Walt Disney World will be closing Space Mountain for remodeling January 2, 2009. Below is a list of changes:

2-seated cars
On-ride synchronized soundtrack
New track, same layout [though other rumors point to completely different track(s)]
Probably a new entrance area layout
The entrance area will be cut off from the ride (you cannot see the ride from the entrance area)

Bummer.

Grrrr... we don't get there until the 4th! Well, that sucks. Does anyone know when it is coming back?
Just another reason to plan another vacation!

Space is going down for a year...it's in the unofficial guide..totally true. The rest I haven't heard, but it doesn't sound far-fetched.

I agree. All the changed and refurbs made sense until that one. I hope it isn't true, that would take a couple of years from start to finish.

I've heard Space mt will close for a long period of time, But leveling Big Thunder Mountain, doesn't seem likely.

I heard about Space Mountain going down for a year.

Ref to BTM I heard there is talk about a new attraction in that area, but not a replacement.

I read that The river boat and Island are almost untouchable and will remain.

I have a good neighbor who's Uncle has worked at the MK for nearly 15 years (Splash Mountain facilities). She just came back from visiting the MK and he swears:

I can understand the need for refurb. for SM and I look forward to the updates, but BTMRR????????
