noooooo we are quite the opposite Tink24- wwe regularly stay at POR and have found it very lovely each time. But everyone is different and of course tastes vary. However, I would doubt very much if they would ever close Riverside or French quarter as the Port Orleans resort is the biggest resort of them all and they simply could not afford to close this resort. It accomodates far too many people. The resort itself was initially Two completely different resorts once upon a time in the form of Port Orleans ( now POFQ) and Dixie Landings ( Now Riverside). Disney decided to then merge the two together.

I would hate to see any of the resorts go but in the present climate nothing would suprise me.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

In the past, WDW hasn't really "closed" resorts, but they have not booked guests at specific resorts for certain times. It might be semantics, but I think "closed" implies permanent or semi-permanent, and I doubt that is the case.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

I don't think there is a chance of a resort(s) being permanently closed. If they were to shut down a resort during the hard times, I wonder if they would consider Pop? Mind you , I love Pop and don't want to see any of the resorts closed for any length of time. But, it is the resort farthest away from everything except for WWoS. At least with the All-Stars they are in close proximity to DAK and they could make it where they share buses at all 3 resorts all the time to save on gas.

I dunno, I have heard from people who just been up to WDW in the last couple weeks who outside of Thanksgiving said the resorts and parks have been very quiet, even more so now with it being off season.

I spoke with DVC on Tuesday to add another day to our trip next month and at least DVC resorts have brisk business. The CM I spoke with said that the difference is that the members book the trip way in advance and usually have things planned or budgeted out so few reservations have been cancelled

I'd rather that CSR is closed to regular bookings, just use it for conventions and all the businessmen who hang there, and maybe even the sports teams/bands/school groups that go to WDW, which would mean that an AS could be closed, but I am not sure which one.
Never happen. Too many conventions booked and Disney is spending lots of money to upgrade the whole place to let it sit. POFQ is the logical choice because it is the smallest and really offers nothing. Disney can just move those guests to POR. It's really just a branch of POR. It happened in 2001 after 9/11.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

It wouldn't surprise if bookings are okay for this holiday season, since those plans were made months ago. However for the first half of next year, vacation plans would probably would have been made in the last few months continuing until now and light of the current situation I imagine people are not making vacation commitments.

During the last crisis Disney shutdown POFQ and suspended building the additional Pop buildings, so I can see Disney shutting down/closing (pick your euphemism) hotel(s) for a period of time.

As for DVC, that is a different situation. For the older DVC resorts like OKW, they can't simply shut it down since all of the members probably already own their "units" (yea i know technically points) if they financed the purchase price.
As long as most of the members keep current on their yearly charges then there is no reason to shut down a DVC resort. If many members start to default on the yearly charges that is a different story.

The other situation the new Bay Lake tower, other timeshare companies in Orlando are drastically cutting back on staff, claiming that it is not because of no willing buyers but lack of financing for the time share companies to build more buildings. If the other timeshare companies are telling the truth and if DVC is self-financing the actual building costs then DVC should be okay.

Yes, that is why I think it makes logistical sense to just keep CSR open for the conventions/businessmen and school groups/teams -- that way, only one resort is financially burdened with discounted group rates and can be run accordingly. Guests paying regular rates can fill up some of the other resorts, which might need to have one or two buildings closed in each if things get really bad. That's what I'd try, anyway.

And for the very reason that POFQ is smallest resort, I hope it is chosen to stay open. So many guests really are more comfortable in a smaller resort and so they prefer POFQ above all others.

Judging by past experience, you could be moved/upgraded to a moderate resort if the other values weren't available...

Re: I heard a rumor today...

just think about all those jobs that would also be laid off if they closed this all down. Perhaps they should also offer DVC resorts at a lower point cost to help fill them- it might not help so much with the cost of rooms coming in but the park admissions and the other expenses that are spent would help a lot to the park economics.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen. POFQ close once before and would most likely close again.
