Didn't it close last time for a rehab? I don't remember it closing due to lack of travel...I could be mistaken of course, but I just don't recall that.

After 9/11 it closed. Unfortunately, they only gave about 6 weeks notice last time. I found out the day after Thanksgiving in 2001 that POR/POFQ was due to be closed the first week in January 2002.

When it closed the second time, that was for rehab.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

Closing a few buildings does not help since it requires you to still staff the open ones- if you close a whole resort then you are saving on the entire staff in that resort from housekeeping to desk to food service. I suspect that they will be closing a whole resort for this instead of just a few buildings. I also suspect a huge drop in the booking of group sales and conventions- with so many companies cutting back they will not be spending on huge things like that either. Its a very scary world we are living in right now!

I don't think they can lower the points. The number of points can't be changed, it can just be adjusted but the total for the year has to stay the same. DVC resorts are still going to be mostly full since we have already paid for the points. People who can't afford to travel this year are going to either rent the points out or bank them. We can only bank points for one year so the economy won't effect DVC as much as other resorts.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

I dunno, guys. On our last trip--the week RIGHT after thanksgiving, when everyone said it would be dead--there were people EVERYWHERE. I mean it wasn't a 90 minute wait for every single ride, but I was REALLY surprised and just slightly dissapointed. (Don't get me wrong, Disney needs the business but I wanted low crowds! )

My mom was shocked too. She thinks everyone is in denial about the recession.

I'd be surprised if they closed a WHOLE resort. A couple wings maybe, sure.

Maybe they should lower the points it would take to stay in a regular, non-DVC WDW resort for DVC members? That might help fill some rooms.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

We were just there and attendance was definitely down. I know this is usually a slower time of year, but we rarely waited and the crowds were pretty thin. They will do what they must and Disney definitely knows what needs to be done to stay ahead of the game.

Believe the Mouse. Disney reports to investors are telling us that bookings are down. So is the fact that prices are plummeting on their booking site.

Re: I heard a rumor today...

I really thought that the Value/Mod resorts would be more appealing considering the current state of the economy than the Deluxe.

Then again, I suppose it's those who are still doing alright are the ones still traveling, and they can afford Deluxe.
