Icon4 NEW PARKS PROMOTION for 2010! "Give a Day, get a Disney Day!"

taken from the new Disney Blog:

Breaking news…as we just announced on Good Morning America, if you give a day of volunteer service to a participating organization, you’ll get one day of free admission to a Disney Park. It’s a first-of-its-kind program we’re calling “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”

And yes, it’s that simple — a free one-day ticket to a Disneyland or Walt Disney World theme park for guests who volunteer a day of service to a participating organization. We’re celebrating you and the good things you do for your communities.

Our program officially begins on January 1, 2010. When it’s live, you’ll be able to visit Disney Parks | Travel & Vacations | Family Vacation Getaway | Disney or Disney Parks / Where Dreams Come True / Dream Family Holidays and search for an eligible volunteer project. After completing the volunteer work, an e-mail will be sent from Disney with a link to print out a certificate to redeem at a theme park for a free one-day, one-park admission. And if you’re unable to use the ticket, it can be donated to a charity designated by Disney.

With this announcement, we’re looking for 1 million people with a passion to make a difference. And we’re working with HandsOn Network to do it. They’re helping make sure you find the perfect volunteer work. And many of the program’s volunteer opportunities will be for the family.

Also, you’ll notice that we’re raising awareness for grass-roots community volunteerism in more cities than just Chicago. Disney VoluntEARS are joining local volunteers in cities across the United States and Canada today. Work projects involving more than 1,000 volunteers are happening in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami and across Canada — Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver.

We’ll be posting more details about the program and how it may involve your city on the @DisneyParks Twitter account and right here.

Of course, there are some official details you should know about: Must pre-register and sign up for eligible volunteer opportunity at disneyparks.com. Ticket quantities for this program are limited. Must be at least age 6 to participate. Other terms and conditions apply.

I saw a commercial for this last night. I think it's a great promotion. But how will they determine that the person really has done the work? Is everyone required to bring a note from home?

Man with how I was paid at my last job I would have qualified for a free day every day!

Great promo idea. I am sure the Disney has worked it all out...still sure there will be complainers and scammers.

This is a really cool idea. I'm interested to see how they track volunteers.

Re: NEW PARKS PROMOTION for 2010! "Give a Day, get a Disney Day!"

It sounds like you have to pre-registar for a local volunteer project that qualifies through the Disney website, participate in the project, I'm assuming that a volunteer coordinator or director logs your participation at the event, then the article says that Disney e-mails you a certificate to redeem for a free one-park one-day ticket.

I am definately interesting in participating because last night we were talking about going back to Disneyland next year and these vouchers would cut down the cost on a Disneyland multi-day ticket. I may only have to buy a 3 day ticket now instead of a 4-day. Cool.

This is just an educated guess based on how they've run promotions in the past. They'll probably put an expiration date on when the "free vouchers" can be redeemed; for instance if you pre-registar & volunteer in February 2010 with the program I bet Disney will send you a reemable certficate with an expiration date of like a year later, or something similar.

I would also guess that each family member is only eligable for one certificate, but we'll see, I'm assuming that official details will be forthcoming.

Re: NEW PARKS PROMOTION for 2010! "Give a Day, get a Disney Day!"

I took these from the FAQ section of the link Jess posted:

Is there an expiration date for my free theme park ticket?

Yes. December 15, 2010 is the last day that you may redeem your voucher for your free ticket. Once your voucher is redeemed for one day admission to an applicable Disney Park, your ticket will be valid only on the day of redemption.

When is my free Disney theme park ticket valid for use? Are there any dates I can't use my ticket?

Your voucher for a free ticket to enter one of the Disney Theme Parks may be redeemed through December 15, 2010, and must be redeemed and used on the same day. Please note, however, that on the following days, you will not be allowed to redeem your voucher for a free ticket:

* Walt Disney World® Resort: March 29 - April 8 and July 4, 2010
* The Disneyland® Resort: February 13-14, March 21, June 21-22, July 4, November 21, December 11-12, 2010.

Re: NEW PARKS PROMOTION for 2010! "Give a Day, get a Disney Day!"

It is one ticket per person regardless of the amount of time volunteered. This is stated in the FAQ on the site posted by Jess. I'll be interested in seeing what the list of eligible organizations will be..we have annual passes but would love to be able to donate our volunteer-time tickets.
