High Speed Rail being approved, slowly....

I don't know who all have heard about this. I had heard a rumor about this when I worked down at WDW (Fall of '01), but nothing had ever come of it. But the other day I was reading my Eyes and Ears (communication for CMs, in case you didn't know, though I think most of you would know that! :D), and it said this high speed rail was getting approved, but very slowly. The rail would run between Wide World of Sports and the airport. The only problem they are having with it is that the taxi drivers and other transportation (such as Mears) between the airport and Disney are complaining how much business they would lose. Has anyone heard about this? I'd love to know more about it. Just because it's in the Eyes and Ears doesn't mean it gives ANY information to us poor CMs, we're usually the last to know. Why that is, I will never understand.:

I can't see it, because it would kill all of the towncar and transportation business going into WDW. One hand washes the other. Some of those businesses would go under if this happened. It would be great for us, but I can't help thinking of all the people out of work due to it.....I'll keep paying. They have to feed their families too.

I saw it a while back in the news. It is definitely true. I can't honestly remember many details though. I will try to find a link for you.

I feel bad for the people who are going to lose business on this. It is a very cool idea though.:)

Competition is good for business. It tends to weed out the weak. While I don't know how it would work (you'd still have to get some sort of shuttle from WWoS to your resort, and good luck dragging your luggage onto the old busses :) ), but I'd give it a try.

Maybe it would force companies like Mears to improve their service? This last trip we took showed a major decline in Mears' customer service, which hasn't been all that high to begin with. I'd rather stand for 1/2 hour waiting for a train I KNOW is coming than waiting outside for lord knows how long for a van/bus/car that MAY be coming.

Tiffany would survive simply because of their superior service. The high-speed rail can't stop at a grocery store or take you different places, so they still have something the competition doesn't.

Taxis are overpriced (50 bucks from the airport to DTD resorts!), but still run everywhere. Don't forget that these companies also service Sea World, Universal and every other region.

Personally, I think it would be a nice idea to grab your bags, hop on a train, then find yourself at WDW.

well there are many problems and well mears may object to it they are the only ones that will really lose any business over it and it won't be done anytime in the near future, hers some info:

- Disney wants the route to go along the green way and only stop at disney, they have said they will not allow use of there property if it goes any other way.

- most residents of central flodia prefer for it to go along the 528 beeline route to reduce traffic and make it more useful. it could then go down international drive and stop at a few points, somebody from universal made the comment to the disney route along the lines of "I'm sorry are they tax dollars or disney dollars?"

- there is no money for this train funded as of yet.

-towncars probly won't loose any buisness becuase the people using those services aren't fond of shuttle services like the proposed train.

-also the residents of hunters creek have some type of land deal saying a train cannot go through. this would kill the 417 route.

now while i'm in favor of this train we have way to many railroad crossing in flordia, I would like to see a monorail type system used, such as a
maglev monorail now the type picture isn't availble yet however there are simlar types that travel at higher speeds.
