Disney selling Celebration?

I ran across this article today and have not seen it mentioned yet. This seems to be getting mixed reviews from the residents and apparently this was Disney's plan from the beginning. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I wonder what the future will hold for this community without the Disney influence.

My wife and I were looking at Celebration in August of 2003 and we were told that Disney may be looking to get out of it.

Considering the current track record of the Disney corporation in regard to quality in ALL aspects of its operations this could be considered a good thing. Celebration is still an excellent example of a "new urbanism" town. When the Disney corporation still had a creative forward looking team the creation of a new urbanist community "Disney Style" was a terrific idea. With the present atmosphere of cost cutting, poor quality, and overall tackyness that comes now from the top, a new forward looking owner might make this development even better. If Eisner has his way I'm sure he would just up everyones rates and cut all services and upkeep until there was nothing left.

Remember its people that make a community!

I agree with you. We had talked of the options there as well and if Disney is selling I no longer consider this an option. :bandit

Hopefully the right path!,
If you look in all the years past, there have been many "bumps" in their history...even in 1941 when the animators went on strike. Everyting has a way of working out. Hopefully Disney now is so "Disney" that the powers of one man will not stand in the way od sucess.

Contrary to what a lot of you may think, Disney's official announcement of the sale of the downtown core of Celebration will be greeted with happiness by many of the people who live there. The community has been controversial ever since it was founded and there have been constant feuds between unhappy homeowners and Disney. One of the biggest complaints is that Disney geared the shops and stores there to attract tourists with little regard for the needs of a working, growing community.

Of course, things in Celebration may not even change much because the new owners, Lexin Capital, will use Lincoln Property Co. for facilities management. Lincoln Property, an Orlando company, has served in a similar capacity in Celebration ever since 1996 when the downtown area opened.

I still think it would be a wonderful place to retire. It is beautiful and I am sure it will still ge well maintained. It is very close to DW. It reamains to be seen if many changes occur, but from what Park Hopper said it looks like there may need to be some. I would still consider it as an option for retirement.
