DVC raised points for Cruising
Lurk mode disengaged...A bit of a warning for you DVC'ers thinking about cruising. This past week, we made reservations for a June 5-9 Disney Cruise. We had been saving points for a couple of years, but I completely missed that DVC raised the points for cruising in 2005...by about 17.5% for our cruise.I had been banking on 486 points for a cat5 for the family in Regular season. It's now 588 points. Not real happy about it, but what can you do? Take care folks. Bruce Lurk mode engaged... ![]() |

Nice to hear from you again. Have you considered just paying cash for the criuse and selling the points? The cost for that cruise is just under $4,000 for the four of you, and would be about $3,800 if you were to get a cat. 6 stateroom. Typically, points are worth about $10 each, and in a big bunch like this, you might be able to get a little more. With 588 points, you would only need to get $6.80 per point to break even. If you were to get $8 per point, you would end up with about $700 to pay for anything you like. Or, if you could get the $10 per point, you would only have to sell 400 points, and you can keep the rest for another trip.

Re: DVC raised points for Cruising
Dang Mickey...should've checked with you first. I have to admit that I didn't think this through.
I'm assuming that you can only sell points that you've banked and that you can't sell points that you've borrowed from next year? How hard is it to sell points? I suggested this to my wife when it was 486 points (about $8.23 a point), but she talked me out of it...thought it would be a hassle. Bruce |

Re: DVC raised points for Cruising
LOL, yes, it is my fault. I guess I should pay more attention!
Actually, you can sell any points you can get your hands on, banked, current or borrowed. I have sold points before, but it was always as part of a reservation. I would probably suggest posting your points for sale on the DIS boards, and see what happens. Probably should list in there that you selling some of them doesn't help you, so you can't guarantee the sale until you get commitments for all or most of the points. In looking at posts on their DVC board, things tend to go quickly.
