Cruise Transportation Advice

Exiting lurk mode...

Hoping for some transportation advice...

We're doing a 4-day cruise and then Vero Beach in June.

We're arriving in Orlando the day before the cruise (staying off property), going immediately from the cruise to Vero Beach, and then Vero Beach back to the airport and home.

I thought it made the most sense to rent a car at the airport for the entire stay - at least in terms of convenience. In terms of cost, I don't think I'd save enough over the price of convenience by doing 2 seperate rentals or paying for a transfer or limo to DCL.

Thoughts? Am I overlooking something?

Thanks!

Bruce

Hi Bruce! I can't answer your question--I just wanted to say hi--I haven't seen you post in a long time.

I see you lurking sometimes--I am glad you decided to post.

How exciting to have a cruise planned, is this a Disney cruise?

Re: Cruise Transportation Advice

Hey Bruce.
I was looking into a cruise, and was going to go with the rental car after looking at all the options. Just seems to make more sense since you have to travel a lot before during and after your cruise.
Have Fun!!

Re: Cruise Transportation Advice

Thanks Buzz... the more I look at it, the more I think that's the way to go.

DT, it is a Disney cruise. We had been planning a 7-day cruise this summer for years...and they had to go move the darn boat to DL. So we'll do the 4-day (Cruise newbies) and then 3-days at Vero.

We had been very calm and collected about the whole thing until the calendar said '2005', and we realized it was only 5 months away. Now...we're very excited...something new, but still Disney.

If you rent a car in Orlando, don't forget you will have to pay 10 dollars a day to park in the lot at Canaveral while you are on your cruise.

Re: Cruise Transportation Advice

Funny thing about all of this... I started doing some serious research on Vero Beach (there just isn't alot out there), and my wife and I decided that it wasn't for us. Instead, we've made plans (literally just confirmed - woot!) to go to the Wilderness Lodge Villas again.

I vowed never to go back in June again... that didn't last long... But we'll be back in March 2006, so the thought of getting Annual Passes (with the new DVC discount!) just seemed like it made more sense.

So now we're planning on using the new Express to do the resort/airport thing, then using the transfers to get to DCL. That feels better!

Congratulations on WL, I love that resort. A trip to WDW does sound better than Vero Beach.
