What cat. cabin?

OK, here goes. We are thinking about taking a Disney cruise next year. I realy want to know what anyones opinion is about the cabin they were in on their cruise. Do you think its worth it to get a room with a great view (a veranda or an ocean view) or do you stay so little in the cabin that it realy does not matter what kind of cabin you get? We have never cruised before so I am compleatly clueless. We will be bringing the 2 kids if that makes a difference. Also if anyone has an idea as to what time of year is best... I don't want to be cold, lol, but I realy don't want to get cought by hurricanes . ANY advice is welcome Thanks

Re: What cat. cabin?

Our family loves to have a verandah. It was especially nice for us to have because when our son fell asleep, my dh and I would sit on our verandah enjoying the private view of the ocean and just talked into the evening hours.
Another great moment for us was when I woke up as the sun was rising and we were able to video tape this event from our verandah.
We will only take a room with a verandah.

Re: What cat. cabin?

We just got back from a 7-Night Disney cruise and made only 2 of 4 ports. Missed the Bahamas & Cayman Isalnds!!!!

Disney didn't reimburse anyone a penny.... Except for a Happy Hour serving "Bahama Mamas".

Very dissappointed with the "Disney Magic"!!!!!

Re: What cat. cabin?

This is such a personal decision. You have to take so many things into consideration.

We've taken the Disney cruise twice (the Wonder). Once with our 2 daughters and once just as a couple. I'm one of those people whose accomodations are an important part of the trip. Both times we took an outside cabin with verandah. And it was fabulous. But that's us. My DH and I enjoyed sitting out on the verandah, reading. It also gave us a bit of respite from noise and crowds, yet we could still be outside. So, if that's the kind of person you are - a verandah's great.
If, on the other hand, you think of a cabin as a place to sleep and change clothes, why spend the money on a verandah? Is a window important? Do you need some daylight while you're in your cabin?

You also have to consider size. You'll need accomodations for 4 - so that will probably mean a "family cabin" - which has a king size bed, a sofa bed and a bunk above (which folds into the wall during the day).

The good news is that whether you choose the most inexpensive cabin or a top of the line, they're all beautifully appointed. (I peeked into an inside cabin last time, and it was virtually the same as our outside/verandah - except no window.
So ask yourself all these questions and decide what's right for you. One way or another, the cruise is fantastic!

That sounds so nice Disneybound, romantic. I am driving DH nuts with trying to plan this far ahead, but I want to think about booking soon!!

Re: What cat. cabin?

I sailed once with a friend of ours and she had booked a room in an inside cabin.
It was very claustrophobic......please consider that when making your choice.
I think there is a spot in the cruise brochure that mentions the dimensions of the rooms. Our family also likes/needs its personal space so that is another reason why we select a room with a verandah....When you walk into the room and you are able to see beyond a wall it is a nice feeling after being "on deck" on the ship.

It is a very personal decision. We have good friends that would rather have the additional money to spend in other areas than in the room they only sleep/shower in considering they spend little time in their room. On the other hand, we have to save longer for our vacations in order to have the type of rooms that we prefer.
*** We will never sail in Sept. again. We got caught in the tail end of a hurricane and had to make time at sea and arrive earlier in the Bahamas than we were supposed to . We were told there was a medical emergency and we would be arriving during the night earlier than expected. We were outside and to this day I can remember how the weather changed...how the wind picked up, the waves. It was frightening.
I couldn't even walk back into the ship by myself. My husband had to have his arms around me as we both held onto the armrail on the ship to inch our way inside. Our clothes were flapping against our body to the point that it hurt.

NO MICKEY.....that is horrible. Please tell us more about your experience. Did weather prevent you from making all of the stops you thought you would be making?

Re: What cat. cabin?

We have had both an inside and outside cabin. The kids loved the outside cabin - the window is enormous! We also loved the split bathroom - it gave more people time to get ready at the same time. We have not had a verandah due to price - but we are sailing on another cruise line in a month (Disney was booked), and we have a verandah. They say, once you've had a verandah, it's hard to go back!! The Disney Cruise is the best line we have sailed on. Just remember - no one can control the weather. No cruise line will reimburse you for missed ports. They should credit your shipboard account if your exscursion is cancelled because of it though. Have a great time - cruising is the best way to go to R-E-L-A-X!!!

You're 100% correct. It's the "Luck of the Draw", I think, when it comes to weather. We've sailed in Sept. and Jan/Feb. The Sept. was absolutely perfect weather. When we sailed in January, it was freezing in Florida, but the next day in Nassau it was beautiful and stayed nice until we docked back in Florida again. My understanding is the earlier you book, the cheaper it will be.

Re: What cat. cabin?

We've sailed (non Disney) many times in the non-veranda rooms with no problems at all, but if we were crusing with a little one that may need a nap I'd go with a veranda for sure.
