Disney vs. Other Cruise Lines??

We are seriously thinking a family cruise in 2006. We have always planned on going on the Disney Cruise. However, there are some obvious positives for us using another cruise line. We can cruise for 9 nights out of Bayonne, NJ (so no flight costs) for about what it costs for 7 nights on Disney. I believe it would be Royal Carr cruise line.

Has anyone done both a Disney and non-Disney family cruise? If so, what are your thoughts???

Re: Disney vs. Other Cruise Lines??

I haven't done a Disney cruise......yet..........but have cruised many times in the past and came very close to doing a cruise rather than the parks this year.
Cost is the BIG issue, for us also, so we opted to wait and see.
Our childerd enjoyed the cruises that we did go on (Royal Carribean, Holland America and Celebrity)
If I was going to cruise again I would do Disney, just to be able to check it out and get some Disney Magic. All the cruise lines are getting very family orientated, but Disney just looks the best when you compare them all. And their private island looks FANTASTIC!!
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but at least you know you are not alone in your delima.

Re: Disney vs. Other Cruise Lines??

We've done several cruises - two on Disney, one on Royal Carribbean, two on Norwegian and one on HollandAmerica. The only line I would NOT cruise with again is HollandAmerica. The non-Disney ships can be every bit as luxurious. The problem, of course, is that we're Disney spoiled. I will admit that the Disney cruises were our favourites - I don't have to explain why to you, being a fellow Disney fanatic - but if you go with the mindset that this is NOT a Disney holiday, you can have a fantastic time on a cruise.

Re: Disney vs. Other Cruise Lines??

I've never cruised, but when I do I'll go with Disney. I'm not big on casinos or "partying," so I think I'd much more enjoy the family-oriented entertainment on Disney ships than the adult-oriented entertainment on other ships. And you just can't beat the Disney magic!!

Re: Disney vs. Other Cruise Lines??

I've never been on any type of cruise. But my brother has been on a lot. He told me that his cruise on Disney was the best vacation he ever had in his life. He also said that the cruise on Disney was so much better than any of the other ones he went on. So, when we get ready to go on a cruise (in a year or two) we will go with the Disney.
