Disney Cruises--Eastern or Western?

On a 7-night Disney Cruise, which ports of call are preferable; the Eastern Caribbean or Western?

It doesn't seem like there would be much difference to me, but I've heard some people say that some of the ports of call are better for kids or better for adults.

As long as it stops at Castaway Cay, it's good enough for me...but...

Re: Disney Cruises--Eastern or Western?

When we take our cruise someday,*elbows DH sharply* I want to take the western. I would like to see Mexico and go on those excursions. In fact I'm still working on wearing down DH to get there lol.

Re: Disney Cruises--Eastern or Western?

To me the Eastern Carribean is more "family" friendy.
The western side seems more "adult" to me. Mexico and Jamica being on the Westen side is why I say that. I have been all over the Carribean and feel much more comfortable with my kids on the Easten side with stops like St Thomas and ST Marteen.

We, personally, preferred the Western cruise. But maybe that's because we've been to the Bahamas, St. Thomas (which is beautiful) many times. We LOVED Grand Cayman Island. I could happily live there.

Re: Disney Cruises--Eastern or Western?

We chose the Western cruise because it made many more stops at the time. We stopped in Key West, Cayman Islands, Cozumel Mexico, and then Castaway Cay. Just today I was looking at a photo from Cozumel, remembering the amazing day we spent upon the shore near the ancient city. Dreamy.

DGF took the 4 day Eastern one with her folks last December, and it didn't seem anywhere near as interesting as the one we had gone on previously. For some reason, I don't think there's much to do in the Bahamas unless you gamble.

Do they still offer the longer Western? Now that the Magic is on it's way to California, I don't think the Western cruise will be on the itinerary for a while, will it? Or will the Wonder be pulling double duty?

We'd like to try the longer Eastern, particularly if it still stops in San Juan (as it did last year). The more stops the merrier, I think. As much as I love a day at sea, it was great exploring the lands via excursions.

FYI there are some western cruises that actually skip Key West and stop twice at Castaway Cay. Our Nov. 2006 cruise is like that. I think it is great for those who love Castaway Cay!!

OMG REALLY?!?!?! That is sooooo good to know. (Thank you!) I just know that I will want more than one day on Castaway Cay...

Thanks to everyone else for your replies; that helps a lot! The Western seemed to appeal to me more, and I'm thinking that is definitely what we will go with in the future.

This is true! It's being called the "double dip" Here are the dates for 2006 that are doing the double stop at Castaway Cay: May 27th, June 24th, July 22nd, Aug 19th, Sept. 16th, Oct 14th, Nov 11th, and Dec 9th - Remember these are 2006 dates.

Also, just an FYI - they are selling like crazy so if you are interested, I suggest booking. These are really popular cruises.
