Cruise Dress
I'm a little confused about the 'dress code' on the cruises...
If I currently have it correct, the 3 & 4 day cruises do not have formal or semi-formal nights. You can go to the nicest restaurant in your shorts & mickey t-shirt. But the 7-day cruises DO have formal and/or semi-formal nights? Can you wear your shorts & mickey t-shirts to dinner on those nights? Maybe I'm weird, but the last thing that I want to do on vacation is to get dressed up. Heck, the last thing that I want to do off vacation is to get dressed up... :) Bruce

All of the information we have received from the Disney Cruise Line indicates that shorts and t-shirts are not allowed in any of the main restaurants for dinner. I am sure that for breakfast and lunch, it wouldn't be a problem. Palo definitely requires a jacket and slacks for men, a dress for women. Formal night is optional, and requires either a dark suit or tuxedo.
Bruce, I don't like it any more than you do. But, I guess I can live with it for a couple of days. Maybe they will make an exception for you if Mickey is on your t-shirt. :D

We went on a 4 day/3 night Disney cruise in 1999 and we had to dress (jacket and tie for the guys) for dinner at night.

Bruce...DH and I went on the 3-day cruise last year. He wore a polo shirt and slacks every night to the sit-down meal (we did not go to Palo) and shorts and t-shirt to all of the buffet style meals. The restaurants were nice, and the food was good. But...we ordered room service several times, which was very convenient. The best part of the cruise is that if you choose not to dine in the restaurants there are plenty of other options! DH and I never went hungry.

I think I may have confused you Brum... I said that you could wear casual dress b/c that was what was allowed to us on the cruise.
According to my Passport, from Christmas, 1999, this is what it said: Quote:
We were told by our travel agent at the time, that casual attire was allowed for all dining - my husband wore a Mickey t-shirt and shorts on our first night of dining (Parrot Cay) and not one told him he could not enter (I just double checked with him - he said "no." He did say he remembers noticing he was the only one in a Mickey t-shirt though) Second night was Christmas night, and we all wore dressy attire to Lumiere's. (he had changed out of his t-shirt to dine there on Christmas morning - he said he felt out of sorts there). Third night was Palos - he wore a suite, fourth night was Artist Palate, he wore a polo and slacks. No where other than when he made reservations did they tell him what to wear. My main conflict came from Passport and our travel agent, but that's because we did not use a Disney Certified one. I hope this helps. I know there's an online copy of the Passport somewhere (DCL's documentation guide) but I haven't looked for it lately and am on my way out the door again... I'll look later if you have not found it. Bruce, there are actually two restaurants that require jacket and/or tie: Palo and Lumiere's/Tritons.
Here is the official Disney word: The attire for Animator's Palate and Parrot Cay is casual. Lumiere's, Tritons and Palo are more formal. We kindly request that no shorts, swimsuits, T-shirts and jeans be worn in any of their restaurants in the evening and... button-down, open collar shirts or polo shirts and slacks are recommended for men. Pants and a blouse or a casual dress are appropriate for ladies. For Lumiere's and Triton's restaurants, and for adults-only alternative dinner restaurant, Palo, it is suggested that men wear jackets or a button-down shirt and tie and ladies wear dresses or pantsuits. Of course, this is for dinner only, and does not include any other meals or on board the ship. Sorry for the confusion.
