Older Teens Cruising?
We are thinking about 20th. anniversary cruise with the kids. I know, I'm nuts, but I like travelling with the kids and they're old enough to lock out of the room when we want time alone.
They'll be 17 yrs old. Two questions: - are we crazy to think DCL for 2 - 17 yr olds? Will they feel like they are surrounded by toddlers and pre-teens? - they're both big guys, will we need to consider two cabins? What should we consider in cabin style if we are to stay in one room? Thinking about Carnival cruises but like the consistant product offered by Disney. This will be our first cruise so we're not sure what to expect.

Re: Older Teens Cruising?
I have a near 17 year old, and he has been on one Disney cruise, and will be going on another this Spring. He loves it. The teens have their own place to hang out, though many of them go to the adult activities. For my son, he can come and go as he pleases, and that suits him well.
I think you would be fine with one stateroom, since they kids would be in bunk beds. I would probably go with a verandah stateroom, just seems bigger when there are four of you. You might also want to consider two connecting inside or ocean view staterooms. It would give you more room, but you lose the verandah.

Re: Older Teens Cruising?
With regard to one or two cabins....You may want to consider two cabins depending on how big your boys are....Meaning big tall or big like football players. As Mickey said...the "kids" will be in bunk beds...or at least one of them will. I believe they usually make the sofa into a lower bed in the evening leaving only one bunk bed for the other son. I know people that have gone on this cruise with 17 and 18 year old sons and they thought the bunk was a little small for either of the boys. The other nice thing about getting two cabins is that you will have double the bathroom facilities..even though DCL has the best ones in the cruise industry for the "regular" cabins. Have fun..:)

Re: Older Teens Cruising?
Thanks to both of you for the info. Like Football players is a good description. Now.. how to pay for it? Time to work the budget.

Re: Older Teens Cruising?
We took our 19 year old daughter and her friend on our cruise. The experience was well worth it. Next time it will definitely be a longer cruise. Even though it's a Disney Cruise, we were never 'bothered' by small children. They seemed to have their own things to do. Second best time at Disney we ever had....

Re: Older Teens Cruising?
We took our daughters (15 and 16) on the Cruise. We had a verandah stateroom and it was big enough for us - but I think if I was taking them again, I'd get an outside cabin for my dh and me and an inside cabin for the girls. That being said - I've got to admit that they didn't have the greatest time on the cruise - they just sort of fell in between children and adults. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as much fun as they expected. There weren't many their age. Neither of them is eager to do it again. But they'll take at trip to WDW at the drop of a hat.
