Going on a Disney Cruise!!!!
Hi Everyone!!!
I'm new to this site and I have a question about the illness on the Disney Cruise's. Were people getting sick on both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder? Or was it only on the Disney Magic? From what I've read it seems to be only on the longer cruises. Disney Magic does the longer cruises and the Disney Wonder does the 3-4 day cruises. We are going to WDW for 4 days followed by 3 days on the Disney Wonder. We are truly looking forward to it. I'm hoping that because ours is the 3 days on the Disney Wonder we'll be ok. What do you think? Does anyone have any info that will help me? Thanks for sharing your awesome site with me!!!

Sunshine, welcome to DisneyCentral. It was only on the Disney Magic that people were getting sick. We are scheduled on the cruise that leaves this saturday, and I spoke with DCL today, and they said there weren't any unusual sicknesses this week. Of course, any cruise ship is susceptible to this type of virus. There is a Princess ship out right now that has 212 sick, so you never know.
I wouldn't worry about it until something comes up on the Wonder. I am sure with the recent happenings, Disney has been extra careful in cleaning the Wonder. They don't want to have to take another ship out of the water for a week.

some tips
from the Houston Chronicle this past sunday--
In the travel section, they interviewed a doctor in regards to how best to guard against illness on a cruise ship, and he advised: Wipe off the door handles, etc. often (don't know how likely that would be) Wash your hands often. And (I kid you not) take pepto bismol tablets with every meal (2 before bedtime also)--yes, that is 8 a day! He stated it would help ward one part of the illness!:weird: That seems like a lot to me, but I don't think it would hurt for three or four days. He also advised that if you do get sick, to let the ships doctor know asap. He might have some medication to help. Heres to a healthy cruise!!:D |

Walburnm, welcome to DisneyCentral. No, the cruise ships that were having a problem were from completely different ports and separate food suppliers. That is one of the things that they checked first. The Norwalk virus is very common, and this happens all the time, but not usually to three ships in the same week. We just got of the Disney 7 night cruise yesterday, and there were only a couple of people sick, under 20 I had heard. Not too many considering there are more than 4,000 guests and crew on board. Disney took great precausions to keep any other outbreak down, we couldn't even get our own food at the buffet. It kind of defeats the purpose of a buffet.

I just got off my cruise today on the Wonder... Here is my take from what I saw and experienced...
I didnt see or hear of anyone being sick, and Disney seems to be doing a great job at precautions. We got handy wipes to clean our hands with before going into buffet... Though we were able to get our own food, someone was there handing the plates out, so its not like just anyone could have touched your plate before you eat off of it. In the bathrooms, I dont think there was a single time I used one of the bathrooms in the hallways, and someone wasnt in there cleaning it down... Also, on the personal side, I made sure that my daughter and myself washed our hands often, and especially before going to eat... Seems to work... Dragn
