Cruising the Wonder on the 29th...
Hello everyone! I'll be going on my first Disney cruise this Sunday...Im very excited, but at the same time a bit nervous... It so happens that my boyfriend and I cant be together for Christmas or New Years, and he didnt want me to mope around at home about it, so he gave the gift of Disney to me and my daughter...
Im excited about it because I've never been on a Disney cruse before, and its been about 10 years since the last time I cruised...but Im nervous because I know my daughter will be doing a bunch of activities (shes 5) and I will be just kind of hanging about on my own. Would be nice if someone else is going to be on the same cruise, to be able to have someone to say hello to... I will be traveling on the 4 day cruise on the wonder on Dec 29.... I dont exactly want someone to latch onto if you know what I mean, but would be nice if I didnt have to eat alone, or if I wanted to have a drink or go to a show, to sometimes be able to have someone or someones to enjoy it with! Take good care! Dragn |

dragnlili, welcome to DisneyCentral. We just got of the Magic on Saturday, and it was great. The nice thing about how Disney does the dining is that you are at the same table with the same people every night, and usually the table is large, 6 or 8 people. They will give you two spots for you and your daughter, and the rest of the table will be complete strangers. It is a great way to get to know people.
Also, breakfast and lunch are on your own. I would suggest eating at Triton's as much as possible. The lunch there was always fantastic! You will be seated with someone else new everytime, and we met some really nice people. Breakfast is the same way. Plus, the food is much better than the buffets on board. On our cruise, they also had a lot of single parent functions, where you could meet other single parents who are on the cruise. Have a great time, I am sure that both you and your daughter will love it.

Thanks so much for the info Mickey! I didnt realize that we would be seated with others during dinner....I rather like that... Seems like they make it pretty easy to meet other people on board... I've been pretty nervous about traveling just with my daughter...but Im ready for the adventure :) Thanks again for the info!

Hi Dragn, and welcome!
When DH and I cruised last year, I was always surprised at how few children were in the club areas. Seems like the kids on my cruise perferred hanging out with their folks. But, if you do find yourself alone...the ship has a movie theater and a fantastic spa. Both of these activities are fun to do alone! Enjoy yourself!

Thanks for the welcome Trish!
Since my daughter is 5...I think she would have a blast doing the activities with the other kids so Im going to make sure she gets to do that... She is really outgoing and independant, always ready to spread her wings and explore, whereas I would actually be just as happy having her with me the whole time! Im going into this ready to have a good time...even if I do have to do the shows and stuff on my own, Im sure Ill meet up with people along the way.. I decided that theres no way I can be lonely on a ship with so many people! :) Dragn p.s. I am definitely going to make my way to the spa!!

I went on a Carnival (gasp!) cruise a few years ago...and I cruised alone. It was my first big trip alone, anywhere. Needless to say, I was nervous.
After only one night, I made friends with several other single cruisers and we stuck together for the rest of the cruise. We were a diverse group, too..all different ages and genders. The Carnival experience was not as relaxing or family-friendly as the Disney Cruise. You will find lots of little nooks to enjoy yourself and lots of people with the same interests.

Reading that makes me feel a lot better Trish! I have this image of everyone there with thier families and not really having the time or inclination to want to talk to anyone else... but I guess anything can happen!
Ive also decided that even if I dont meet someone I can just hang out and do things with....doesnt mean Im not going to enjoy doing it on my own... Its been 10 years since Ive been on a cruise...and if its another 10...I want to look back and remember what an awesome time I had!!! :D

You know, the best times that I have ever had, and the fondest memories...are times that I have spent alone on my vacations.
You will have a wonderful time, no matter what. And...you have a terrific SO to give you a CRUISE!! I get things like Disney DVDs. :laugh

Dragn, you are so lucky! So that means you will be on the Wonder on New Year's Eve? What a night to remember!
FWIW, when we went on the four day cruise a couple of years ago, they had a 'single traveler's only' welcome party. I don't know if they still do that. They also have intineraries for adults, as well as one for families. If you daughter is five, the Occeanears Club room is fabulous! I wish my daughter played there more (she finally decided she wanted to on the last night) but I made the mistake of not playing in there with her, so she felt abandoned when she was there. That's just her personality. Trish, I get the DVD's too. I think Mickey should set up a "Girls Weekend Out" three or four day special and we all give ourselves a holiday treat! Minnie can hostess! :D :D :D

I got my tickets today!!! Happy Happy Joy Joy! :) I think I read through every piece of paper that came in the box...I am so stoked! It all feels really real now....
I for sure will be on that ship come New Years Eve MickeyMac! There was a letter with my tickets saying that it would be an elegant affair...semi-formal to formal...oh my! Good thing I still have that black gown I wore nearly 3 years ago...never thought I'd wear it again! :D Im sure my daughter will love the Oceanears Club...Shes incredibly independant and explorative, Im sure she will not even notice me when I leave! At least that will keep me from feeling guilty or wondering if shes okay... But I also know she will really like the shows, so Im going to make sure I take her to them... Ive heard of the singles welcome party...not quite sure what to think of that yet...but its good to know that its at least an option! Dragn

Dragn,
Make sure you go to the singles party - the staffers are wonderful at drawing people out of their shells. You may feel like you've got a billboard on you, but look at it as a way to connect with other parents with kids on the ship. My cousin was Mickey on the Big Red Boat and she said that that party was almost always successful, and one of her favorites to be at. And you can fit into a gown you bought three years ago? I'm impressed! LOL! How elegant... a moonlight cruise on the Wonder, making memories with your daughter... OK, now my husband is telling me to stop dropping hints... LOLOL! Trish, no, hadn't read the poem, send it on along, along with a translation dictionary! LOL!

As for my dress...I have been clinging on to that thing hoping I get to wear it again (At the cost, I better be able to wear it more than once!) ...though...I do have to remember to suck My stomach in when I stand up...hehehe After finding out about the New Years bash and all...my man is getting a bit down... Ironic how the trip he got for Me so that I wouldnt mope around about not being with him, now has him mopeing cause he cant be here to go on it with me!! Ill lots of pics for him :D Dragn
