Updated...

I tried to order a video on the Disney Cruise Line on the Disney web page, but incountered some errors during my order, so I have a few questions about Castaway Cay.

(Updated) Are there places on the island that are prohibited? -If so, where are they?
(Updated) Can we go back onboard the ship during midday before our departure is due? And if we can, are some of the restaurants and/or other places closed?
(Updated) Also, someone said something about bringing food [Cheeze Whiz] for the fish while you snorkle at Castaway Cay, is that true?

Please help me with these questions if you have answers!

Thanx,
Lee

How much are the bottom fishing rentals and exactly what time do they start and end?
Castaway Cay Bottom Fishing is $110 per person and last for about three hours. This fishing trip takes you to the Abaco Islands. Bait and tackle are all supplied, and there are two departures: 9 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. You have to book this well in advance if you are interested. The boat will only take 6 guests, so it usually fills up quickly.

How much is snorkeling rentals?
The cost is $25 per day for adults, and $10 for kids 10 and under. They also have a package deal that is $35 per day for the snorkeling equipment, the use of a float or the day and an hour bike ride. We purchased that, and the bike ride was quite fun.

Are there places on the island that are prohibited?
Yes, the majority of the island is not accessible by guests. When you arrive, you will notice that the only parts of the island that you can access are along the edges of two of the sides. There isn't much on the rest of the island, just some support buildings. Most of the people who work there actually live on neighboring islands. There is also an adults only beach, Serenity Bay. It was beautiful, and very uncrowded.

Can we go back onboard the ship during midday before our departure is due?
Yes, the boat is open all day long, at any port. Lunch is served on the island, so we had no reason to go back. We did head back about 15 minutes early, since it started to rain, but there weren't many people left on the island. Most everything is closed on the ship though, but they open back up around 5 PM.

Also, does anyone know what the weather/water temp. is down there around the end of March ?
My guess is that it will be in the mid 80's on the island, and the water temperature will be a little below that. In December, it was over 80 all day, and the water was a little cool, but still fine once you got in. The island is just beautiful, you can't imagine how nice everything is. There are also some shops on the island, as well as an extension of the Oceaneer club if you want some time without the kids. Just beware, Serenity Bay is a good 30 minutes walk from the kids club, and probably 20 minutes if you wait for the tram.

I can't answer all your questions because I've never been on a Disney cruise but I have been on other cruises to the same destinations. The weather in March in the Caribbean is PERFECT! It isn't too hot but it is warm enough to lay on the beach and be warm and swim. The water temp. when we went was a little cool first thing in the morning but NOT COLD like it is on east coast here during this time of year. But around 11AM it was perfect. The water is beautiful.

The 2 cruise lines I have been on had ferrys between the ship and private island all day so you weren't stuck out there but we didn't go back until we had to! There is just so much to do.

Have a great time and enjoy your cruise.

Cagana Massages

:o If you have extra money you simply have to do the "Full Body Massage" when you are in Castaway Cay. They are located on the "Adult" side of the island. But you have to make reservations for them way ahead. I did my ressies as soon as I boarded the ship, and they have already booked half of them. The cost isn't cheap, but lying on the bed with double doors open to the ocean and having a full massage for an hour is just too  ....well, what is a good word...oh yah, relaxing. :laugh Anyway have a great cruise, bon voyage;)
