Another Cruise Question

I've read that you can not bring a cooler w/food and drinks in it onto the ship. What if you pack unopened bags of food, bottled water and or soda in your suitcase? I know on my other cruise (not a Disney cruise) we packed snacks and soda w/us. I do not drink a lot of soda, but my son and I both drink alot of bottled water. I know it would make things heavier to carry/roll on the ship, but I'm hoping we can bring a few things along with us. :D

I am not sure about a cooler, but I don't see why you can't just pack some water in a suitcase. They never checked our day bags, other than going through a metal detector. There are small refrigerators in each stateroom. I would suggest packing what you think you will need in your "day bag" that you take with you on board. I didn't think the drinks on board were very expensive, $1.50 for a big bottle of water. We just did that, and I think it was less than $20 for our 7 night cruise. All drinks are included at meal times, so you could just take something with you when you leave.

I carried bottled water and formula on board for my son on our last cruise. Never had a problem.

the problem is with customs. You would be allowed to bring things onto the ship, but coming back off, you would have to leave them onboard.

Thanks for all the info. I will bring a few snacks on board, just incase we get the munchies for something and it's not available. I will bring some snacks/bottled water in our day bag. That way we will have it with us during the day until our luggage is brought to our room. If we have to buy water, we'll know now that it is not that much $$, so we won't fill up our suitcase w/water!!:dazed I'll know to just throw away any unused food at the end of the trip instead of bringing it with us, thanks for that info. ;)

Any suggestions on deck/category? I have done some reading on line. Families that have posted their own site doing a "trip report" with pictures. I saw on two different ones, that the lower decks, deck 2 and lower at least, had some noise from engines and kept people awake. Has anyone experienced this? I'm now thinking of doing a Cat. 8 deck 7. Any comments good or bad on this deck? I see that the Cat 8 rooms are at the front of the ship. Is this good or bad? My son has a problem with loud noises. He actually gets *sick* if it gets too loud. Even at his school cafeteria. So that is why I am concerend about the noise level.

Thanks for any advise and opinions!!:)

The topsider buffet will be open the minute you get on the ship, so you shouldn't need anything to tide you over. Room service is included, except for drinks, so if you get hungry during the day, and don't feel like a hot dog or pizza, that is an alternative.

We were on Deck 7, and didn't hear one noise from outside our cabin. I would advise against anything below deck 3. It seemed rather noisy every time I went down there. We were near the back of the ship. When it was a little rough outside, I didn't notice anywhere on the ship that was better or worse than any other park. The restaurants and other places are spread throughout the ship, so there really isn't an advantage to being on one end or the other.

Just Returned...

:) I just returned from the Jan 11th Magic cruise. We packed bottled water in our suitcases and there was no problem. We also packed some snack food. When we went thru customs on our return they would not allow any; fruit, meat, dairy, veggies back into the country. Basically any perishable items I believe. Hope this helps, have a great cruise.

Mickey, I'm assuming by "drinks" you meant alcoholic type? Can't you get water or soda or coffee or whatever with room service?

On the cruise, all drinks are included during meal times in the restaurants, with the exception of alcoholic drinks. During non-meal times, and outside of the four main restaurants, all drinks cost money. With room service, I believe a coke was $1.50.

It is possible to buy a drink pass so that you can get soda outside of the restaurants. It was $35 per person for the 7 day cruise.

I have been on 4 cruises from Oct. 01 through Nov. 02. Each time I brought a couple of 6 packs of Diet Pepsi Cafeine free with me. On my 3rd cruise I was asked why I brought my own soda. I said it was because there was something in the Coke ingredients that made me repeat myself. I had no problem with bringing my soda with me to the buffet-style breakfast and lunches aboard all my cruises and drinking them with my meals.(I didn't bring my own drinks to the main dining rooms, though.)
