Sounds fun!
I've never done anything like that. I do know the Unofficial Guide recommends cruising AFTER your WDW time, just to make sure you're relaxed at the end of your vacation.

Have not stayed that long in conjunction with a cruise. The longest we've stayed is one week and then we did the cruise. It is sorta nice to cruise after WDW...just to rest!

Yes...Disney Cruise Line will transfer you from your WDW resort to the ship...If you request it when you book your cruise. They will also provide your transfer to the airport upon your return. Of course there is a cost involved.

I have done a 7 night cruise with 10 nights before the cruise, and I will be doing a 7 night cruise followed by 7 night at WDW coming up in a couple of weeks. Definitely a fun way to go.
Transportation out to the port is expensive, as it is a good hour away from WDW. DCL will charge about $60 per person for the transfers, but the way you are doing it, they can't do it, since they go from WDW to the cruise and then back to the airport. A town car is a decent deal, about $255 for all three legs, and you can go in whatever order you want.

too far away though, you need to go sooner  I'm hoping to do my Disney cruise in January '07 or maaaaybe November '06

I can't comment, but it sounds like an awesome vacation. Personally, I can understand the cost factor, but don't let the luggage issue prevent you from taking a cruise. I think the extra hassle of transferring luggage will be well worth it.
