Passports!

Woohoo!!!
I went and got them for all 6 of us!!!
Ok so it sucked!
I had to spend $35 on pictures at AAA and that was with the member discount!
then I had to spend $150 on the credit card for the postal fees and another $345 on Federal fees for the passports so lets add that to the cost of a trip past Jan 1!!!

BUT......

We have submitted them as of this afternoon! WooHoo!!!

Re: Passports!

there is something very freeing about having one I think! I can go anywhere I want now.... you are free to travel around the COUNTRIES...he he he

It was so expensive though- and the kids are only good for 5 years too. I have to pay for them yet again and its going to cost almost as much as it did for our 10 years.... but you should see the mug shots.. they are soo dang cute!

Re: Passports!

But you don't NEED passports to travel the countries in EPCOT.

What? There are countries OUTSIDE Epcot too?

Smart to have them in plenty of time.

Re: Passports!

That just does not seem fair that the kids are only 5 years and cost almost as much. I guess it does make sense - kids' appearance changes so quickly and they are processing fees so it doesn't cost the gov't any less to issue them, but still!!!

I think that they should just have the pic and height changed after 5 years- not the whole passport. Perhaps adding the new pic to an old one or something. I feel bad for those that live along the Canadian and Mexican border. That is a lot of people that will now need a passport to cross for work or visits or family etc... And that is also a lot of money for families to fork over for family visits local as well. My best friend is from Canada and she is facing the same with a sick father up in Grand Falls. I feel so bad for her!

Re: Passports!

Woohoo we just went on the cruise over the summer and we hesitated whether to get the passport for the kids or not. We ended up doing it and like you said it is great knowing that now we can travel anywhere around the world without having to worry about them not having their passports. Good for you guys and it's almost time for the double digit dance.

Re: Passports!

I assume that you and dw have your own as well? I have never had one before. Other than Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas I have not gone anywhere that I would need it. But now with the new laws coming into effect I suppose its a good thing to have just in case.

You will need a passport to go anywhere out of the US... expect Puerto Rico... If you go to Canada you can use a birth certificate, and you need a photo ID as well as a letter from the parent (if you are divorced) stating that you know the child will be crossing into Canada...

I had a friend who had to leave her mobile number with them, and she got a call the day she was leaving to make sure where she was.

Re: Passports!

now my friend was told by her parents that they are talking about it on the Canadian border so I would not rely on that info. I would take the steps necessary just in case. I was also told by the travel agent that its all borders crossed-

It is going to be necessary in the future to cross into Canada. Here in Washington State, they have warned everyone that by 2008 passports will be necessary to visit Canada. So what you heard is correct.
