Please help us choose! Land/Sea vs. Sea

Hi everyone,

We need help deciding on Land/Sea vs. Sea only in January.
We figured out pros and cons to both sides and need a tie breaker!

Situation:
I will be graduating from college and have been a unemployed student for a year and a half (again) budget it HUGE on this trip but so is celebration!

We are looking at Land/Sea because it is less expensive (a few hundred dollars which would inturn pay for our passports) I can use reward dollars to pay for food in the parks which would be the only extra expense. Plus we would get a chance to stay at a moderate- we usually do the values.

On the flip side, if we do the sea only, we will probably want more excursions=$ and the base rate is already more expensive for the week. But, when will we go on a cruise again? My DD really wants to go to the islands... She has favorites in the parks but her and I were just there so it is not top priority.

DH reallly wants to see the parks again ( it has been a few years for him) but is excited for the cruise portion as well.

We have never been on a cruise or out of the country (unless you count Canada) so this will be a very special trip either way.

Should we stick to the land and sea and plan for another cruise ...someday?
Or are there reasons we should splurge for the sea only?
Please help us chose keeping in mind, spending more money needs a convincing rational.
What would you do?

THanks!
Zoey

Re: Please help us choose! Land/Sea vs. Sea

Okay, I think I can help!

Having done both options, I would stick with the Land/Sea! Here's why:

Since you have never been on a cruise before, doing the Land?Sea is a great way to start! My family and i did our first cruise this way! In the very slim (very...VERY SLIM!!) chance that you don't like being on a large boat in the middle of the ocean, at least you will have enjoyed the parks as well! I've talked with many people on the ships during both of our cruises, and the majority of first time cruisers I spoke with did their first cruis this way!

After you try a Land/Sea vacation, then you will be able to make a better decision on whether or not to go out again!

I hope this helps! And if you want to know exactly what each type of cruise is like, I filed both types of trip reports loaded with photos and info that will help you out!

Just remember.................once you do a Disney Cruise, no other cruise will match up!

Re: Please help us choose! Land/Sea vs. Sea

Although I do agree with Amelia'sMan, I'm going to play devil's advocate!

By cutting your time on the boat shorter, I feel you are also missing out on some of the great fun of cruising. We just got back from a weeklong cruise (not Disney) and while we didn't enjoy the boat part (it was our first cruise ever), we did enjoy the excursion part. We really enjoyed the experiences that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. We felt that cutting our time in half with the Land/Sea cruise, we wouldn't really get to enjoy either to it's full benefit. I would rather spend a week at the parks or a week on a cruise than try to do both in a week, but that's just me!
Like I said, I agree with AM also, but wanted to share a different opinion too!

Re: Please help us choose! Land/Sea vs. Sea

I am considering a Disney Cruise as well. Since I have been to WDW so many times, I am going to opt for the longer 7 night cruise. I have been on other cruises before, but DH has not. I think if we only go for 3 days, once we get settled and start knowing the ship, we have to disembark! So I am considering a 7 night (or longer, if they have one!) for 2008 or 2009. Hopefully 2008!

I think land and sea. That way, you get the best of both worlds. Can't deny DH his trips to the parks.

Re: Please help us choose! Land/Sea vs. Sea

I think I'd pick the Land/Sea because it will be easier on your budget, you'll get a little cruise for you and your DD, and a little park time for your DH. You'll get to try a moderate, so that will be something for your DD to look forward to as well

Maybe the 3 nights land/4 nights sea will work well for your family.
