Re: Thoughts on Formal Nights

As the second man to post, I also say go with a tux.

While I can't remember the last time I wore a suit, I always bring my tux with me on a cruise. I used to always rent a tux, but once I realized that this cruising thing would a regular occurance, I did the math and came to the conclusion that buying would pay for itself after 3 to 4 cruises.

I am not sure if you are implying that you will be sailing a cruiseline other than Disney, or will be eating at the buffett one or more nights on an upcoming Disney cruise. If it is the latter, one night we were on a cruise that had first and second seatings and we got back to the ship to late to be ready for our first seating assignment. We still dressed up and ate dinner at the buffet. Most cruiselines have spruced up the buffet for dinner service so it almost like eating at a normal restaurant. There were other people doing the same, including some ship officers.

I vote tux, too! Men dress up nice... it's classic. Nothing better than a guy in formal wear.

It is a Mediteranean Cruise on a Norwegian Lines ship - which has open dining with 12 different restaurants. There is no "seating" - you eat when you wish - but we plan on having dinner in the two formal dining rooms at least a few of the nights and will dine at the special French restaurant for our anniversary - so you really have a choice to wear whatever you like - but I LOVE dressing up on cruises. However, my dh has answered the question for me - he's out right now buying a NEW tuxedo - which I guess I will have to pack. (but I do love that he enjoys dressing up too! )

Re: Thoughts on Formal Nights

I just got back on NCL. You will see peole dressed up all sorts of ways. There is a dress code for the main dining hall and speciality ($$ cover charge) places but this really wasn't enforced that I saw.

Go for the TUX. But you know it doesn't take TOO many day's rental before it's actually cheaper to buy your own. I even have a Mickey vest to change it up!

By the time I added up all the "extras" the cost of renting would be over $100 - which he refused to pay - and then we worried about the fit - but he felt his old one was "shabby" and he needed a new one. I'd love to get him the Mickey vest - where did you get it?

Re: Thoughts on Formal Nights

Oh.... NCL is pretty informal. It's not your typical cruise line. You can really dress however you want. It's always fun to dress up, though.

EBay. Where else? I asked about on in the local formal wear shop and they looked at me kinda funny.

Promise him...well YOU KNOW.

I have just the opposite problem. My DW thinks anything not in soccer warm ups IS dressed up.

Re: Thoughts on Formal Nights

Being English, we always dress up to dine whatever the occasion. I trust Neil will be wearing his tux when we meet on the Cote D'Azur? One wouldn't want to look out of place at breakfast, would one??

PS Like the countdown. Is it really that soon???

Oooooh - say it again - "meet on the Cote D'Azur"!!

Naturally, we will be most appropriately attired. As of course, you and Madame Towncar will be also. One does like to be properly attired as one partakes of one's croissant and cafe au lait, doesn't one?

(The countdown's freakin' me out!)

Llama, you guys will have a blast! And you will look sharp, too! I can't wait to see your pics!

I have heard great things about the French restaurants on NCL...I just didn't get to try it. They have an Anniversary/Romance Package you can buy and it's WELL worth the money! I think for $79, you get dinner for two in the French Restaurant (I think it's a $20 cover per person), a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries in your cabin upon embarkation, a champagne party with others who have purchased this package, a 5x7 photo from the party, Canapes delivered to your room one night (not sure exactly what this is, but I think it includes cavier), and a bottle of wine at a restaurant during dinner.
