I think I would do better on a ship that's not Disney, because of the parks that I have to "leave behind" when cruising with Disney. And like I said, we're really not "laying around on the beach" people, we walk our beaches when it's cold and blustery - so castaway cay was not a draw at all for us.

I don't think you're going wrong with the 4 day cruise to try it out for size.
For me, to miss the parks is terrible, because I have to trick my family into going to WDW So any chance I get, I should not miss

You'll have a great time. Just read all the trip reports on the disboards - everyone has fun there.

They have nothing on me

I want to try out all of those signature restaurants, which we never have because of my boys' appetite. I couldn't afford to pay for that.

Re: I am not sure any longer....

Just my .02 but.....
I felt the same way. None of us (DD 11 and DH) were really ocean cruiser type people. We opted with the land/sea in January to check it out just in case we hated it we were not stuck for a week LOL! It was SO AWESOME! We hardly saw kids (SERIOUSLY) unless we were at the areas where there was character signing and "parties". We saw about as many kids roaming around as a January evening in the World Showcase LOL!

My DH actually noticed how empty the ship seemed even though we knew it was almost a full ship. There are SO many things to do where kids are not allowed or not interested in. We never watched a Disney movie either LOL! There are Broadway type theater shows there though (like Beauty and the Beast). Castaway Cay was breathtaking and there are adults only areas there and on the ship.

It is NOTHING like the parks and is a great, relaxing wind down from a few hectic days in the park. The Disney theme/touch is fantastic and elegant yet at times there are park type events on a smaller scale (pirate party ect). The food and service was fabulous and little touches such as the cabin alert sound for when the captian has an announcement (not giving it away) gave me chills and tears in my eyes- just like walking into MK.

Pick the early breakfast/later dinner and check the navigator so you can steer clear of activities for the little ones and you might just have a wonderful experience! If you can handle the parks, you can handle the cruise!

Even us Land-lovers can't wait to go again!

Almost everybody says what you just said. For me it was this terrible feeling on not being able to go to the parks.
I got this cruise booked because I knew I couldn't talk my husband into going to Disney for 9 days. that was my reason for it. Now it's cancelled and he has no idea He'll be at the parks for 9 glorious days

Re: I am not sure any longer....

Lol!
I agree~ I LOVE the parks ... I could not go to Florida w/out stepping foot in MK. We have tried to explore the rest of the state and I just can't bring myself to leave property. I wouldn't say 9 days is a BAD thing *smirk*! We just loved the break and downtime after the parks!

Parks vs Cruise= just a different Disney experience!
As you know, you'll have fun just because you are at Disney!

Re: I am not sure any longer....

I have never been on a cruise but four of our children have. They have been on Disney & non-Disney cruises. The thing they tell me about a cruise is that #1: They enjoyed it. #2: Snorkling & visiting different countries was interesting. #3: BUT, any longer then a week is too long. Because, on the ship everything gets to be repetitive which leads to boredom. Our one DD was on one for nearly 3 weeks. She said that she will NEVER do that again.

Actually, I can see myself and DH tooling around the world, the real world, on a ship. The one thing I just can't do is be on a Disney ship and not go to the parks. Thats the crux of the whole thing

If I had to chose, it would have to be the WDW parks for us! If I felt the need for cruise, I would have to pick two cruises.... Pirates of the Caribbean & the Jungle Cruise! Just think, they are a lot less expensive, too! But, that's just ME!

I am so afraid that this ship will be filled with screaming, bratty kids, there's nothing to do but watch Disney movies and no place to escape. We're not summer beach people, we're blustery weather beach people, so Castaway Cay is not a big draw for us either.

Ok, I have talked myself into it, I am going to change plans.

Thank you for listening
Awww Dopey, I feel sad for you, but if it's not your thing, then I'm sure you WILL have a blast in the Magic Kingdom!

Let me just say though, that while the DCL ships DO cater to the kids, they ALSO cater to adults!

It is absolutely remarkable how the ships are set up and regulated! As you know from my postings (and trip reports!) We've been on three previous cruises with Disney, and each one has been....well....MAGICAL!!

We travel with our twin sons, and they are always off doing there own thing! Even as I walk through each ship with my camera and exploring, I've never seen any screaming kids running around! Disney does a truly magnificent job keeping kids of all ages thoroughly occupied!

Yes, there are a LOT of kids on board! But It is remarkable at how many couples we run into that are travelling without children!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

You know, the more you mention kids, the more I have this picture in my mind of unhappy kids at dinner tables....
I am glad I changed gears... but I thank you anyway.

Re: I am not sure any longer....

I am not a cruise person at all, but hubby was a chef at WDW and was offered to be a guest chef on a 7 day trip - who am I to say no? So we went and I spent most of the time in our cabin ordering room service and watching movies. I did go to the shows and we ate at all the restaurants.

When everyone went to Castaway Cay we stayed on the ship and used the pool - jus us and one other person. The rest of the time the pools were very crowded.

Crusing is not for everyone and if you don't think it is for you then I would cancel and spend your vacation where you want and feel comfortable :)
