anyone considering the European Cruises?
I have only been on 1 cruise (a Disney one, of course) and have never been to Europe before. But after reading about the new Disney European cruises for 2010 it has definitely sparked my interest. I think it would be great to go to different countries but always return to the same room at night. This is the one DD and I though sounded good (from allears).
12 Night Northern Europe Cruises: 6/12 & 7/6: Departing Dover England, with stops in Oslo Norway, Copenhagen Denmark, Warnemunde (Berlin) Germany, St. Petersburg Russia (2 days), Helsinki Finland, Stockholm Sweden, Dover England. I like that it's in the summer so DD wouldn't miss school. She'd be 10 by then so it would definately be educational. We would have to go tripless next year to justify the cost, but what an experience! Sometimes I feel that b/c we go to WDW for most of our vacations, we are missing out on other places to see. This way we could still be doing something Disney while visiting other parts of the world! What do you think? Is 12 nights way too long to be on a ship?

Re: anyone considering the European Cruises?
I would love to go. I figured the airfare plus the cost of the cruise would be too much. Maybe we should look into it more, though.

Re: anyone considering the European Cruises?
I am sure those countries are great- but thats not the parts of Europe I would like to see if I was going to do a cruise especially a Disney cruise with Disney prices.
The Europe I would like is Italy, South of France, Monaco, Madeira, Corsica etc- but thats just my opinion!

Re: anyone considering the European Cruises?
I say if you can afford it, do it. I just hope that DD will be able to appreciate the trip like you would appreciate a trip like that. I don't think I would have appreciated it at that age. My parents have been on 2 European cruises in the past year and they love it.

Re: anyone considering the European Cruises?
We did a 14 day Mediterranean Cruise in June and it was fantastic! Spain, Portugal, France, Gibraltar, Italy! You're visiting so many places that it doesn't seem like you're on the ship constantly - and you have the comfort of knowing that you'll always have a nice place to come home to at the end of your sightseeing day.
We're planning to cruise the Greek Isles next October. The Caribbean is great - but honestly - you see one island, you've pretty well seen them all.

Llama what you said is exactly what made me interested. I would love to go on tours during the day and then know that I am going "home" at night. I thought this would be a great 1st European trip rather than driving around and going from hotel to hotel. I also agree with the Caribbean thing. Other than going to Cataway Cay nothing else appealed to me about walking around islands for a day. I think that's why I didn't 100% love my 1st cruise, there was not much to see.

Barcelona is an amazing city and the port is only about 10 minutes from the centre of the city. We took a walking tour and it was wonderful. Don't miss the Cathedral - awe-inspiring. Now Rome and Florence are a little trickier - because the ports are 2 hours from both cities. You'll be warned to take a tour and they are EXPENSIVE - but we ignored that and took the train into both Florence and Rome and used the tour buses (in Florence they're right outside the train station) to tour. DO NOT MISS "DAVID". You can buy your tickets for him, on line, and then it's basically like a "fastpass". I neglected to buy them, but our wait time was only about 1/2 a hour. So - if you're up for some adventure - don't take the ship's tours to Florence or Rome. They board last (before everyone else has gone) it's a 2 hour bus drive into the city and you only have about 4 hours - if you take the FIRST train from the ports (they run about every 1/2 hour, you'll be in Florence and Rome by 10:am. You'll have to catch the 4 p.m. train back - but that still gives you a MUCH fuller day and the double-decker buses are great for touring. As for Pisa - you can actually get off in Pisa on your way to Florence if you like, and then re-board the next train to Florence. But other than the Tower - there's not much to see in Pisa. We skipped it to have more time in Florence - an amazing city! Villefrance is right smack in the middle of Monaco and Nice - the fastest way to get to either one is taxi (a bit more expensive than the train but waaaay cheaper than the ship tours). We chose Nice and met Towncar T and his wife there for a wonderful day - Nice is just as you'd dream it is - blue, blue sea, little markets - I loved it. We talked to people who went to Monaco and they didn't seem to enjoy it as much - too expensive for most people.

Now that sounds tailor made for us- we are looking to cruise next year for our Silver wedding anniversary- I want to do the Med as always going to the USA I feel I am not seeing enough of the countries surrounding Great Britain. Goodness, if we could do a Disney cruise from Barcelona I could get a Disney fix and a Med cruise too! ![]()

Re: anyone considering the European Cruises?
I would LOVE to go on a Northern Europe cruise...I my great grandparents are from Finland/Sweden/Denmark, so I would love see those places. With so many stops, I don't think 12 days is too long to be on a ship...you'll want to relax.
