Cabin upgrades??

Does anyone know about Disney's policy for upgrades (free) on the open sea's. We have gotten many onland upgrades over the years, but are sailing for the first time in October (Halloween Cruise)
Does checking in early help or calling ahead?
FYI we booked the cruise separatley from our land vacation, so we won't have automatic room asignments?
Need all your advice!:hmmm
THANKS! den

From the stuff I've read, no one really knows the policy on upgrades, but they seem to work if you have a "guaranteed" room assignment rather than a room number. Does anyone know if this is really true? I also read you can PAY for your upgrade if you desire one at check in.

Cool, you're on the one we almost took - we'll be on the one the week before.

Sounds like a few DC'ers are taking to the seas this fall.. How about a roll call?

We are also bookending our trip with one night stays at CBR.

I'm so excited I'm trying not to think about it!
:D

vThe sources we've found say the above. If you're given a room number, your chances decrease as they won't want to move anyone who had their heart set on a particular room. Also it's supposed to be that if you book a less expensive room you have better chance of getting upgraded as they want to get as many people in as possible and that means expanding those "sale" categories. I would think booking in the middle, rather than early or late, would be the best. Early bookers would get the room numbers and they wouldn't want to move you. Late bookers will be put into the rooms they moved people out of to make room. So therefore it would be those who booked in the middle, and didn't request a specific room, who would be the most logical people to get moved. Now, whether Disney operates on logic or not is a whole other matter! ;)

Well, with Disney, everyone gets a room number, whether it is at the time of booking or a couple of weeks prior to sailing. It will be listed on your cruise documents. Disney isn't in the habit of upgrading people on board, though they may bump you up for one reason or another, but they don't operate like the other cruise lines, since they are almost always full.

When you check in, ask for an upgrade. We were offered an upgrade last December for less than half the price it would have been had we booked it (ie, the differnce in the price between a category 5 and 4 was about $900 when we booked it, but they offered it to us for about $400 at check in).

You could try calling ahead, less than a week ahead, and see if that helps.
