Dinner Attire

:nervous I have heard conflicting reports as to what the children need to wear during dinner on the cruise. Our family will be traveling on Disney Wonder for a 3-day cruise in April 2004. My children are 6 and 8. Would they be allowed to year shorts at dinner? Thanks for your input.

For my two boys, we took chino type pants, a button up shirt, and a tie. This made for some great family pictures. Even though some people will be underdressed, they prefer you not wear shorts. Plus I think it makes it more special when the kids get dressed up too. They can always change back to shorts right after dinner if you prefer.

Agreed, crystalarp-
The kids look great when they are dressed up. There was no real enforcement of attire that we could see last Fall. I brought ties and only really used them twice. There are constant photo ops for the kids right before dinner, so dress them appropriately for the memories. The good thing about the 3 day for you is that I think there is only 1 formal night, the rest is pretty casual. The chinos & shirts sound fine. I think it "adds" to the dining experience to "dress up" for dinner, particularly when you've been wearing swimwear or shorts all day.

I have not been on the disney cruise yet. But I am bringing slacks for my children also. I found on other cruises I was on that during dinner I was cold. All day you are out in the sun and the dinner areas or eating area all have air-conditioning. I hope that helped:D

I thought that I had read in a Disney cruise book-type brochure that they prefer no shorts, but that for the children, it is the parents discretion. I plan on taking a sweater for my girls just in case the air is cold compared to being outside, especially when sitting still (I can only hope!) for that long.

As I had said in this thread earlier, it really makes such great pics when the kids get dressed up. Here are my two boys on their first Disney cruise a couple of years ago:
