We've never been on any cruise before, but are planning on doing a Disney cruise next fall. Of course, being the type-A I am, I'm doing research already. We've decided on either a category 5, 6 or 7 room, & I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. I understand 5 & 6 have open verandahs where 7 has an enclosed one. Preferences? I consider myself pretty well informed when it comes to WDW, but this is all new to me. HELP!!!!!!

We had a category 5 room in February during our 4 night crusie (Nassau, Freeport, Castaway Cay) on the Disney Wonder. It was wonderful!! I highly recommend the outside verandah. It was so nice to sit out there at night in our bath robes taking in the fresh sea air.

Thanks for the tip, DF. I'm assuming you had great weather your whole trip? I heard from someone else that they had a 7 which was enclosed & they could use theirs when it rained, but the 5s & 6s couldn't use theirs. Plus that the 7 was much more private. But my gut feeling is I'd rather be able to really feel & smell the ocean. And that's what I'm thinking you enjoyed, too.

:D :D I loved the stateroom with verandah!! It was wonderful!! My little boy was 4 months old at the time of our cruise. The veranah allowed my husband and I to spend some romantic  time while our baby slept. We never felt cooped up in our room.. and we slept every night with the door open!

By the way.. it rained every day of our cruise, and it never affected us once!

Trish, welcome to DisneyCentral! That is a great idea if you have a little one. You can get away, and still be within earshot if they happen to wake.

Thanks Trish. Was that the open verandah? Or the glass enclosed one?

Anytime ilvminnie. We had a couple nights when it rained and as long as it's not blowing in the direction of your outdoor verandah then it shouldn't effect you. ;)

Cat 7

We had a Cat 7 room when we went on our 7-day cruise last year. I suggest it very much, the only problem we had was that you could feel the engine vibration the first night but after that you never noticed it. The great thing about a cat 7 room is that they are located close to e\the elevators but away from them enough so you don't have a mass of people walking by your room. Plus they are close to Palio and to the top two decks. If you need to have a reference point when looking out over the ocean to keep from getting sea sick they are great. We spent many night out on the veranda just watching the stars and sea and enjoying each other. Tip.... On deck four where the running track is are great deck chairs, we took plently of naps on these chairs they are wonderful to sit and watch the people go by. You'll love your trip.

Gee thanks, everyone! I've heard great things about both 5s & 7s so I still don't know which to pick. No, really...thanks for all your info; it really was helpful. And hi disneycouple30! Glad you've decided to join us.

We had an open verandah:D We were next to a navagators verandah:dazed The view was too wonderful to look at through a hole. Plus, we could actually lean over the side and look at the waves! No danger to the little ones, though. The bars are between sheets of clear plastic.

Thanks, Trish. Did you have a 5 or 6? I think my DH has decided he wants an open one, now I just have to figure out if a 6 makes you feel like you're too close to the water. I understand 5s are higher up on the ship than 6s. What did you think?

I believe that we were a cat. 6, the least expensive of the open veranah staterooms. Not once did I feel like I was too close to the water. Remember, the ship is huge!!!
Do you have a WDW vacation/ cruise combo? We did and we had such a good time!:)

Thanks, Trish. We're DVC members & we are planning on doing the cruise thing followed by a week or so in the park. This isn't until Sept of 2003, but I can make my reservations in August so I'm trying to figure out just what we want to do. We'll have 2 years worth of points at that time & it will just be my DH & I since our DD will just be starting college. We figure we can do a 4 night Bahamas cruise & then 10-11 days in WDW & we'll still have points left to carry over to the DLParis trip we want to do in 2004. Yep, I'm a type-A & love planning these things out!!!!!

That sound WONDERFUL!!:D
Best of Luck to you on your trip. What a wonderful way to celebrate this new phase in your life! Being a new mom, I am sad to think of the day my little boy will leave. A vacation sounds like a wonderful way to take away the sting!
