BWV or BCV

Hi Everyone!
I am new at this, but I would like to find out about renting points for BWV or BCV the first week of August 2009! Just looking for info on how to do this...
I saw some calculator that said I need 350 points. Does that sound right?
You can tell I am in the dark!

Re: BWV or BCV

I have found recently..that renting points is an amazing thing that everyone should do.
Or should I keep this to myself so people won't rent up all the points?

Did you use this calculator? Welcome to Tagrel.com

We need a 2-bedroom villa (don't ask...) but it is an OK splurge, because the kids are chipping in, and it is not just a family vacation... it is also our 20th wedding anniversary (Say it with me: "Awwwwwww!")

I did that calculator, and it is quite a difference from the last calculator I used. This one says I need 275 points (preferred) or 233 (standard), and the other one says 350 (flat price)... Gee!!! I have no idea about how any of this works, so I am totally confused.

Also, what is involved when you go the renting points method? The owner of the membership makes the reservations fo ryou? And then who do you pay? And are you assured that there is not a big crisis at check in -- you know, like not being allowed in the room because you are not an official owner?

The DVC member has to make the reservation and you pay him or her. You will get a paper from the member with all the reservation information on it at some point. There is no way to make sure that all is well until you check in, that's why you need to have a trusting relationship with the member. As a non-member you can't call Member Services to check on 'your' reservation because it really belongs to the DVC member.

It can be a win win situation for both sides but you have to trust each other. I have rented from a personal friend and from two MB members and everything had been fine every time.

Re: BWV or BCV

OK.. next question. Make that questions...

1. Is 275 way too many points to be able to hope to rent from someone?

and

2. on Bella's site, it lists DVC memberships for resale. There are some in the $14000 range. In one of the columns, it tells how many yearly points that buys you. I don't understand why some of them say "150 now, but 300 next year" and I also wanted to know if it is legit to buy these memberships resale... And once you buy them, you still hav eto pay a bunch of money for a vacation, but less than other people pay, right?

I am not a goofball... but for some reason my brain is not able to grasp this stuff.

Ok, are you talking about renting or buying now?

I don't think 275 is too many, there are a lot of people out there with large contracts who might like to do one large rental than 2-3 smaller ones. You will just have to start looking around at some of the larger boards too.

The resales are legit to buy and you will get all the same perks as those who bought through Disney. Once you buy the contract you will have to pay fees every year depending on how many points you own and where.

I think DVC is a great deal if you have the money. If you have to really budget it in to your monthly bills I don't know that it's such a good deal. I think it's one of those extras in life and I wouldn't buy in unless we could truly afford it. I have read some talk on another board that DVC might be thinking about cutting down on point rentals. There are people who have to rent points to pay for some of their membership, this might be a problem for them. (I have no idea if it's true or not and I didn't add that to start a debate about renting points.)
