I am seriously considering renting points,but...

I would like to know what might be the cheapest month to rent. I know the weekends it goes up a bit. I am looking at May or September of 2009. I am flexible on months. I would probably book from Sunday to Saturday.I would like to know what(if any) discounts I would get on tickets, meals, etc. Do I get the same perks as a DVC member. I want to purchase a Florida AP next year and would like to know if I get a discount by renting. I will probably get one anyway but it would be nice to know if I would get a discount. I guess I would like to know what benefits do I get when I rent points. Also,if anyone knows how many points I would need for those months can you please list them. . Oh yeah. How does the payments work. When does the total need to be paid for. Thanks!!

Re: I am seriously considering renting points,but...

Here is a points calculator to help you determine how many points are required at each DVC resort.

DVC Point Calculator, Disney Vacation Club, DVC Information, DVC Points

Oh.. and the person you are renting from has to do all the reservations. They have to see if there is availability at a specific resort you are looking at. Sometimes you will have to go on a wait list depending on which resort you really want.

Sept, Jan. and early Dec. are the cheapest times point wise. I've never rented points so I don't know how that works. And I'm pretty sure a renter can't get any discounts given to DVC owners.

Jo-jo is right, renters shouldn't get any of the DVC perks. You have to show your membership cards for discounts and renters won't have that. Your room key may say DVC member but that's not enough.

We have rented and are renting, and have received no DVC perks other than staying at a DVC resort. Honestly, I wouldn't expect to. You can still us ME & DDP.. but again, the owner has to make all arrangements.

I believe you still get free valet parking if you rent, though...

Re: I am seriously considering renting points,but...

Wow, I calculated my points(based on 2008 not 2009) and boy does it go up alot for a weekend night. Now I must decide which resort to stay. BC will take the most I believe. But, I think that is the one everyone suggests. I guess I would choose that on first. Can you all give me your top three DVC resorts you would choose? It will be about 7 or 8 of us 3 of them children.

Our 3 favorite DVC resorts are BCV, WLV, and BWV. All 3 of those resorts are nice and close to at least one park. With BCV and BWV you can walk to Epcot and take a boat to MGM. WLV is a short boat ride from MK. The other DVC resorts are just as nice but being close to a park is important to us.

Re: I am seriously considering renting points,but...

BWV is our favorite, followed by BCV. We love that location and all hte activity.

WLV and AKV are really beautiful as well, with really stunning theming.

OKW has the largest rooms, I understand, so if space is important, check it out!

SS is close to DTD and golf, which is really perfect for my DD and DH!

Re: I am seriously considering renting points,but...

I really like OKW. It's the cheapest points, but SOOOOO nice there. It is VERy huge, but I think all the DVC places are pretty big. OKW has so much to do there that you could easily never leave the resort and be content. I also like the boat access to DTD which adds things to do. My DD and I usually try to stay as close to DTD as possible as we are there multiple times during the trip and the boat access just makes it easier to me. Taking a bus there just seems to take forever and a day when you are at other resorts. Just another option for you.

The only "perks" that renters get is free valet parking showing your room key (it says DVC MEMBER on it) and the ability to get the Dining Plan without having an Annual Pass or purchasing park tickets.
