I am looking at getting an AP and was wondering a few things: First where is the best place to buy them at? The Disney Store, On line or just wait until I get there? And also how does it work? I remember reading about this in another post here awhile ago and I think it said that you get like a certificate that you have to bring down there with you and then you get your pass at any of the 4 theme parks and it is good for a year from the day that you activate it?
Any other information that you have would be great. We arent going until the 1st week in Dec.....

You can buy them online from disney or at your local disney store ahead of time. You get a voucher which you then exchange for the actual pass when you get there. Your one year doesn't start until you activate it. You can exchange your voucher at any of the parks and I think you can at the guest services at downtown disney as well. There really isn't an advantage in buying it in advance, but some people like to buy them in advance one at a time for budgeting purposes rather than plunking all that money down at once.

I bought mine through Mouseketrips. They mailed me the vouchers that I have to exchange at WDW to get the actual AP pass. Glad you are getting one. With you having multiple trips in one year's time, it will save you some money.

I bought mine at the Disney store before we left. I did not want to bring that much $$$ with me. They give you a voucher and a receipt. The CM told me to make a copy of the receipt and bring it with me. That way if I lost my AP
while at the park I had a proof of purchase.

We went in April and are going again in Aug. We may make a weekend trip and go to the Halloween Party.

I have saved quite a bit on Hotel rates using my AP.

We stayed at the Poly in April and are staying at the WL in Aug. I could not afford the reg room rates...but the AP rates ar very affordable

Thanks for all the help. Just like DANA said, since we have multiple trips coming up it will save us money. Do they put your picture on the AP's? Im assuming that they would so that noone else can use your pass. Does the Ap work the same way as all other admission? I mean like do you put it through the machine the same way at the main gates?

They don't have your picture on them, they look very much like regular passes. You have to put them in the machine at the gate and put your 2 fingers in a scanning device. That is how they know you are not using someone else's pass. Isn't technology amazin'???

Can we upgrade our UPH to AP's when we get to WDW???

No, the UPH come as part of a package and you can not upgrade them. I thought about this too. If you have regular passes you can upgrade ,but not UPH. At least that is the answer I got from the CM at ressies.

I wish DLR did the same fingerprinting with the APs. Instead they have a very grainy, pathetic picture and sometimes the CMs stand there and look at me suspiciously like they think I'm really trying to use someone else's pass!

Oh well...I suppose that won't matter when I get my DLR ID on Saturday!

BTW...my 2 cents...the only advantage to purchasing the APs in advance is not having to carry all that $$ with you. IMHO, I would probably prefer to wait and buy them when I get there. I'm a last-minute kind of person, and if you don't order ahead from the Disney Store, you'll pretty much be left with no choice but to buy them when you get there.
