Re: Packing Tips

Over-packing?

Last year we went for 2 weeks, both myself and DS and 1 small-medium size bag each, DW had 3 super size suitcases. And we had to buy another one at a Wal-Mart while there! We also had to do laundry twice while there. LOL

Next year when we go I was told we were driving so she could bring enough clothes this time.

Re: Packing Tips

I'm a heavy packer myself. I try to pack light but it never works. I end up using my suitcase plus half of hubby's. We make it so we don't have to do laundry while there. I think that the packing kid's clothes in gallon bags already set is brilliant!

The rolling up clothes thing really works, especially with t-shirts. It's amazing how many you can get in - and they don't get wrinkled. I stuff underwear into shoes first. Saves a lot of space.

OK I have to say when I have rolled clothes, and left them rolled, they tend to wrinkle. Do you have to unpack them when you get to where you are going?

Unpacking would be a good idea. The trick is you must first NEATLY fold the t-shirt like you would find it in a store. Both sleeves folded inside to the back, then roll from the top down.

Re: Packing Tips

We usually take a large duffle bag and put our shoes in that, along with a hair dryer, personal care items in a ziplock (shampoo, deod. hairbrush, etc), maybe socks, advil, and a few other items. This leaves room to place neatly folded shirts and other clothes in the suitcase. We are only 3 hours driving from disney so we dont do laundry there. We bring garbage bags and put dirty clothes in that. That leaves more room in the suitcase for the things we buy.

Re: Packing Tips

You all think you over pack? lol I pack two possible owfits for each day. One warm weather and one coldish. That does not include the sweatshirt for each day should we need it. I pack twice the amount of socks I could need. 7 days = 14 socks and the same with undergarments. I need night clothes too...lol I have at least three possbile PJ's and that isn't even talking my robe and slippers. I have to have a pair to sneakers to wear to the parks and I must match so I can bring up to three or four pairs (yes I have shoe issues) I have sandals and dress shoes too. Now on to personal care items : curling iron, blow dryer (just in case), mousse, root lifter, hairspray, night lotion, day lotion, shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, body soap, face wash, astringent, cotton balls.,..lol I could bore you with the rest, but I am certain you get the idea. Anything that I use at home, comes with. DD and I went for 6 days last January/ February and I had one BIG suitcase that didn't quite make the weight requirement for the airline, a medium on for DD's clothes (her's are smaller), and a small one for shoes, robes and personal care. That does not include the bag in the bag for stuff we buy and the carry-on's that me and my DD have for the plane and the handbag I must have for other things...lol My worse fear is going to WDW and not having the right clothes for the weather and having to buy everything, so I OVERpack. I still mamage to forget at least one thing and last year it was the camera...lol I had the film though..lol

Dana, darling, we have to talk! Please do not consider any month-long trips to Europe. You'd exhaust yourself before you got to the airport.

Re: Packing Tips

I pack my DS clothes in the Ziploc bags also. When they come off, they go back in the ziploc and I put an X with a marker on the bag. That way he knows which ones are dirty and which aren't. And it makes for easy packing and unpacking at home. I know at a glance what is dirty and what isn't. I also pack my socks and undies in ziploc bags. You can squeeze the air out and make more room in your bag.

I have decided for our next trip that I will only pack one or two tops. Then I plan to buy a new shirt every day to wear during the trip. That will give me some new Disney tops and take care of my souveners at the same time.

If you go out the back gate (near DTD) and turn left, there is a Publix just down the street which has decent prices. (Assuming you have transportation of course).

Re: Packing Tips

when we went to WDW last june, it rained that week so i packed early. i packed extra undergarments and socks just in case of an emergency. being that we were going in june, i packed two outfits for each day! i'm small and so are my summer clothes so they don't take up a lot of room in the suitcase. when it came to shirts, shorts and pants, i placed them facing opposite directions of each other for room. that really helps when it comes to packing clothes. it helps make room for an extra pair of shoes, which is usually sneakers to wear in case of rain.
my personal stuff i wait to pack until the night before. i don't finish it until the next morning because i need to pack my toothbrush and comb.

Re: Packing Tips

Oh Dana, Are we long lost sisters? Ha Ha You sound just like me. Up until my last visit to WDW I overpacked. Last year we packed everything in (I think they are 2 gallon) Ziploc bags. We also used the roll up idea (once rolled it fits into the ziploc bag). We drive and my children each take a suitcase and my DH and I share one (now).I tend to still overpack on tolitries. Everything seems to fit better and every nook and crany in my suitcase is filled up. Socks and undies & one or two shirts in each ziploc.

I have a new idea now for my next trip. Thanks for giving the tip on not taking as many shirts and buying some as souveniers. That is a brillant idea.

We also use the ziploc bags for our beach towels, individually wrapped food for the parks, or to just put stuff in the cooler that you want to keep cold but for it not to get soggy.
