Anyone drive from Chicago to Memphis?

Hey, anyone from the Chicago area, have you driven from Chicago to Memphis on the way to Orlando? Just wondering if anyone has a time estimate on that trip?

We drove from Madison, WI to Memphis in a little under twelve hours with three short stops along the way (for bathroom breaks, gas/food, and to let the dog out!). Don't know if that helps you or not.

Hi Royorb1, I have never driven to/from Chicago, but I do live right outside of Memphis. Will you be staying with relatives in Memphis on your way to Orlando?

Thanks Smee57, yes that does help because that seems to tell me it will be an 8 hour drive for us. It is just about 4 hours from Chicago to Madison. Disneyfever, we are not staying in Memphis, we are really hoping to see Graceland there and after that we are driving to Nashville. We will be there on Thurs. Feb 17 and we can't leave 'till 9:00 am. If it takes 8 hours for us to get to Memphis we won't get there 'till 5:00. Do you know if we could still see Graceland at that time?

From your perspective, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Personally, we're thrilled. But we love snow here in Madison, WI. By the way, it usually takes us around three hours (depending on traffic and which route we go) to get from Madison to Chicago. When we drove down to Memphis we went through Rockford, Springfield, etc.

I like snow for a little while, than I get sick of it. It is just I always remember how much snow we used to get, and how little we get now. It always seems wierd to me.

We got 9 inches total.

We love the snow b/c my husband works for the Village of Oak Lawn and he makes buckets of money working overtime plowing the streets!

royorb1, Sounds like a fun trip! I think Graceland is open until 5 pm Mon - Sat. If you have time to fit it in, I think you will really be impressed. All of his awards, costumes, and things are amazing. The house and grounds are very interesting too.

We'll be doing a similar trip in late March, driving from Milwaukee to Florida, although we won't be doing Elvis this time

. (We're going to stop at Mammoth Cave instead--always wanted to go there.) BTW, if you have Sirius radio, you can listen to their all-Elvis channel on the way!

Several tours are offered. I favor the Historic Entrance tour. It takes you into some HUGE rooms, including the rotunda.

If you want to get down and dirty, the wild cave trip is a blast. Here's a pic from the "Bare Hole." The tour requires a chest size no larger than 46 inches. I highly recommend it.
