Icon5 DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

My DH thinks I should have my digital camera Fedex to the resort because taking it on the plane or putting in my baggage means it could be X rayed.

Has anyone had issues with their digital camera and or media cards after they were X rayed?

I love my carmera and if there that change something could go wrong and me not have it on the trip I rather ship it there for delivery when I arrive.

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

I have not had any problems with my digital after being x-rayed....I don't see why there would be any problems, as the only problem with 35mm camera, is in the film. But on the other hand, I am not a huge techie.

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

I haven't had a problem.

One option, pull your camera cards and put them in your pocket. I don't think they'd set off the alarm.

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

Some security screeners have given us the option of having the camera hand checked, and not go through the Xray. Others have told us it would not be a problem. The only trouble I had was with 35mm film.

I've never had any problem with mine. Never thought about it actually.

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

X-RAY only affects film containing silver nitrate..

Digital Cameras are just that. Digital. X-Rays won't affect them. Period.
Either before or after the photo shoot.

What I DO SUGGEST is that you contact the manufacturer, and discover what WOULD have adverse affects. Magnetism, electricity, etc...

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

Fedex would x-ray it as well, with stronger x-rays to boot.

An x-ray won't affect a digital camera, as everyone else said. One of the new joys of traveling thanks to modern technology - you don't have to worry about ruining your film.

I had a disposable camera with me when we left Orlando - dd's princess camera which we bought at WDW. The security agents at Orlando MCO absolutely refused to allow me to not pass it through the machine and hand-check it. Lesson learned.

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

Thank you everyone! I will share with my DH. I will also call Sony and make sure. The pocket thing is good also.

Now I will have a camera for my kids first Plane trip!

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

I asked the security person if the x-ray machine would affect digi memory cards and his reply was no. All of my pictures were intact after being scanned. No problems!

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

yeah that is one of the main reasons I'm so glad most people don't use cameras with film now, It's so mucheasier with a digital :) Thats great you'll be able to take pictures on your kids first plane ride too! Make sure you get a pic of them looking grossed out by the food lol :)

Re: DIGITAL CAMERA and Xrays on Planes

I have never had a problem with my digital camera and I fly quite a bit with it. It's a Sony and handles the X-rays just fine.

I know they sell (at photo type stores) a special bag to put your 35mm film inside to pass through x-rays with.
We have and use one, though my DW is the expert on this, I don't know what they call it?

That's great to know. Do you have any idea on the price? It's for my DS and his cheapo cameras that we take just for fun. He and the little girl we are going with love to take silly pictures, I just don't want to spend $50 on them.
