Icon11 A ? for the ladies and the photographers

In past experiences at theme parks, I end up carrying my purse, and the digital camera... and then have this bulky old purse to stash on rides, and to keep dry on water rides!!!!

I want to enjoy WDW to its fullest, yet have my essentials handy, as well as the camera, but don't want to avoid the wet rides while my family enjoys them!

I'm looking for tips on what you use for carrying your "stuff" securely and keeping it dry? I was thinking about a locker, but that's not too handy when you're on the other side of the park! lol

Thanks in advance,
Charlotte

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

I have a Travelon purse (8 1/2" x 6 5/8")from QVC which holds my stuff including my cell, my slim digital camera and my Zire 71 Palm (or, as I call it, my brain) and the all-important ibuprofen. It goes across my body and sits just by my hip without bouncing too much and it's only 3" wide so it get in the way. I don't have the problem of keeping it dry because I tend to like things like the TTA, POC, Haunted Mansion, park bench.... However, you could wear it under a jacket ot even stash a small plastic bag (like a shopping bag) to tie over it on those rides.

Howdy Mommyshotel and welcome to DC!
I always sport a fanny pack when I visit the World. I keep it in front and have never had a problem with any ride restraint system. Sporting goods stores are good places to shop for fanny packs that are water resistant or include a water resistant pocket. I found my current model at an REI store. It features a goretex liner to keep my camera and wallet safe from Brer Fox and Brer Bear.

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

Charlotte,

My DW bought a sling bag kind of like this (but not this one) that she uses all the time. Hers is not water tight but is water resistant (will shed water but wouldn't stay dry if dumped in water). She has a water proof bag for her "woman" stuff and if we are going to a park we both put cash and id's in zip lock bags anyway.

Her bag has 2 compartments plus a sunglass compartment on the strap (she puts her cell in there on a clip...so someone would have to unzip it then unclip it to get the phone).

Because it is a sling she can move it from back to side to front depending on where she is (on rides she can sling it up front).

I had one too. It looked really cool in the store but once I wore it a couple of times then I saw myself in a mirror and was shocked at how much it looked like a green man bag so I gave it to my sister-in-law who thinks it is the coolest thing ever.

that is my 2 cents from an observant male.

Welcome to DisneyCentral!

I put anything I need in a backpack and my DH and I take turns carrying it around. I try to pack light for the parks so we don't feel like pack mules all day. I don't think I am even taking my purse on our trip this time. All I really need is my billfold so that's all I'm taking. Keep in mind I am not a purse girl, I hate to carry one and most of the time I don't.

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and helpful suggestions! I will be looking into a less bulky backpack or fanny pack this week. Ziplock bags! Great idea!

Charlotte (who is soooo glad we don't need a diaper bag any more for the kids ages 11 and 6! lol)

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

I just used a small sling type back pack and any essentials that I wanted to keep dry I put in ziploc bags. It worked out great for us.

Same here. Ziplock bags inside of a small backpack. Usually get to be carried by either me or one of my daughters.

I go with the fanny pack. Yes, they are silly, but they work out great for me in the parks. I like hands-free touring and not lugging all the stuff. I make my DD carry her own fanny pack and her own stuff. I learned the hard way that if I am the only person with a bag, then I end up playing the pack mule.

Think about it...

Fanny Pack

...why would they name it fanny pack...like most people want more packed on the fanny area

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

I have a leather fanny pack and I have never had anything get wet in it and I have rode most every ride at WDW. I will say take only the things that you just can not live without, otherwise they get really heavy.... My fanny pack can go in the back or the front and the strap is large enough that I can wear it as a sling too. It also has a clasp on it and you can hook it to the chair when you are eating and no one can run with it with out the chair. although I have never had anything taken at WDW and I have to really commend the CM's, my favorite little girl in the world came from Alaska to go to Disney with me and I was paying for everything, and she lost her purse on Thunder Mountian, it had several hundred dollars in it. now we thought we might get the purse back, but not the money. I was amazed and very happy we went to the lost and found the next morning, because she actually lost it during the ride and of course they could not stop and look for it until after closing... Is every one sitting down....LOL... she got her purse back and every penny was there, even her elongated pennies. I have to say that WDW is the best there is out there.

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

I found a bag at Wal-Mart made of 100 % PVC (whatever that is) for about $12. Anyway, it's made of some sort of soft plastic that is pretty much waterproof. I like to take it camping, because I can just wipe it clean. Nice and roomy, but not over the top in size. Made by Disney. I have Tinkerbell on mine. I saw Mickey and Minnie on one. I'd like to find a backpack made from this PVC stuff. Gives your hands a bit more freedom when you need them.

I don't know why they call it that. It technically doesn't go over your fanny. The pack is in the front to hide unwanted stomach fat.....the belted area does cover your hips, but not your fanny. Who came up with that name anyway?

I am with you...I would like to know who came up with that name too.

oh and by the way I find that a Fanny Pack accentuates my belly fat (I hate getting old and having the family genes I have )

Re: A ? for the ladies and the photographers

I use one of those drawstring backpacks. Mine's pretty small and easy to squeeze into places - next to me in the seat, between my feet on the floor, whatever. I use ziploc bags for my camera & such too. :)
