pre boarding on southwest

Was just wondering if you are able to get into the "pre-boarding" line when flying on Southwest if you are traveling with kids. I remember doing this when DD was a baby. Now that she's 5 I don't think she qualifies as an infant!! Anyone fly on Southwest recently?

Re: pre boarding on southwest

Can you explain exactly how seating works on southwest? I'm flying them soon, and I know there aren't assigned seats. Do you just have to get to the gate early to line up for seats, or does it depend on when you bought the tickets, or got your boarding passes or something? Anyone know? Thanks!

Re: pre boarding on southwest

You get assigned to a boarding catagory which depends on when you get you boarding pass, so the earlier you check in the better the seat is that you will get.
Once you have your boarding catagory you can line up in that area. Then you get on the plane and pick a seat.
Preboarding is for those with children 4 and under, and those who need assistance boarding. This helps from getting run over.

Re: pre boarding on southwest

you can print out your boarding pass on line at 12:01 AM or later the day you are boarding. This should get you in the A boarding group which is the first regular boarding group.

Re: pre boarding on southwest

You can go online and print out your boarding pass after midnight on the day you are to travel. Boarding passes are issued in A, B, or C boarding group. Group A always boards first. Boarding passes cannot be issued before midnight, even if your originating flight starts the day before. We found this out on our return from Hawaii a couple of weeks ago when we checked in with ATA for our flight back. We had a connection in Phoenix and had to get our boarding pass there after we landed.

Re: pre boarding on southwest

thanks! I didn't know about printing your boarding passes at home. That will certainly help with airport stress!!!

Does anyone know if you can print your boarding passes on the Disney Cruise ship for the return flight home?

Re: pre boarding on southwest

We did the same thing at both WL and BC. The front desk was more then happy to print our boarding passes. We made sure to go down when they wouldn't be busy but they didn't blink at the request. If there is Internet available on the cruise then I am sure you can print your boarding passes.

Re: pre boarding on southwest

I have always opted not to pre-board with kids (although they are now past that age anyway). It just keeps them confined on the plane longer.

Re: pre boarding on southwest

I just booked a business trip for my Dh last on SW. The new policy states you can print out your boarding pass 24hrs before the flight leaves! This is a big plus for those of leaving on an early morning flight.
