Re: People think my baby is older

I was a really tall baby/child so my mother had the same problem.
But i'm just so surprised that Disney made it a big deal.
They're so about customer service that i'm wondering if it's an isolated incident and had to do with the CM.
That's just a shame.

but there was one server at Hollywood and Vine. She was convinced I was stealing her tip from her and lying!
You know, when we dine out with our 2-1/2 y.o. twin daughters, we usually tip more than what would be customary, just to kind of thank the waitstaff for dealing with them. (they're not bad, but I know it's not the typical "party of 4").

That server would've screwed herself out of her tip entirely if she flashed that attitude at me.

You have to go through the whole process of applying again and that's not only costly, but a pain in the neck. A copy of a birth certificate should definitely suffice. I can't imagine anyone at WDW questioning a birth certificate.

A child was abducted at WDW - the kidnapper somehow drugged the child, took him into a rest room, changed his cloths , dyed his hair and tried to get the kid out of the park.

Security was on high alert. The parents just so happened to have the child's passport with them as ID - the photo on it was less than a year old.

Disney security found the man with the "sleeping" child in his arms waiting to board the monorail - they found him because the parent's recognized the sneakers the kid was wearing.

Bottom line, the child's image was distributed all over WDW within a matter on minutes.

A Passport is an unarguable VALID form of photo identification in the entire US and possessions. Even with a birth certificate, most places want a second form of ID.

Doubt Disney would go that route.

My son's passport comes with me on every trip I take, as do photo copies of the photo page of it carried by my wife.

You are mistaken, you can get a renewed passport within a few days - while In Bucharest, Romania a colleague I was traveling misplaced his. We always travel with copies of the photo page of the passport, passport photos and an application for a missing or stolen passport.

Went to the Embassy and we had a new one issued within 48 hours.

I agree! I would never question someone like that. Yeah, some people will lie about their kids' age, but unless the kid is 5 feet tall and they're trying to claim he's 3, I wouldn't blink an eye. That's just not customer service.

I think, if you read my post, I said that I thought the rules would be similar in Canada and the USA. I am a Canadian. And we cannot simply "renew" our passport. We must re-apply. Every seven years. In an emergency we probably could get a new passport from our Embassy - but I would think that losing a passport in WDW would not be considered an emergency. Unless WDW happened to move to Beruit. What I said was that I would not carry a passport around WDW. That is an expensive form of identification to loose,($87.00 in Canada) if you are simply using it to prove your child's age. And to carry around a "photo page of the passport, passport photos and an application for a missing or stolen passport" is, in my opinion, over-kill in this case scenario.

Re: People think my baby is older

Start traveling the world and run into a situation where you loose your passport. It isn't fun - I've seen it happen firsthand. When you don't have it, you'll understand the need to take special precautions.

The passport, for my purpose, is more than a photo ID - it contains a photo and vital information that MAY be needed in an emergency for the authorities. I have traveled all over the world and have real world experiences. I have "been there and done that."

I value my son's life and well being. Would you call that overkill?

This is my response. If you would like to continue this discussion, I suggest we take it to a private message.

We shouldn't take this thread on another tangent.

I have travelled the world. And I really think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. We are talking about a child's age in a restaurant. Period. Stop. Case Closed.

I have no need to take anything to a PM with you.

As far as I am concerned the matter is closed.

Re: People think my baby is older

I'm 20 and I usually get the comment that I look about 14, sometimes younger and sometimes older (than 14) but never 20. At the MK resorts you have to be at least 16 with a drivers license to drive a watermouse. I got down to the dock and the guy is all "OMG, you're 16??!!" and I was like, "No, actually, I'm 18" (maybe it was 19, but anyways). I still get handed the kids menu at restaurants. I turn 21 in January so it's gonna be really fun trying to buy alcohol. My boyfriend doesn't look his age (23) either. Can't wait until we have kids and start getting dirty looks from people thinking we're teenage parents.

Bring his birth certificate to be safe, but I think front gate CM's are supposed to take your word for it. As for restaurants, I don't know.

Re: People think my baby is older

DD 9 last year was close to 5' and 100lbs but we were never questioned or given a second look about anything. I think we are just growing kids bigger these days. There were a few times when she was 2 and 3 people thought she was 5 or 6 because she spoke so well and was so tall. The copy of the birth certificate isn't a bad idea. Just in case you get one of those obnoxious doubters again you can just whip it out and boy won't they feel silly.

Re: People think my baby is older

When we're asked how many children my DW always says "three", the kicker is we only have two kids. I guess I'm the third.
