People think my baby is older
On my last trip to WDW in Jan of '06 my son was 17 months old. My DH and myself were on the dinning plan. The problem we kept running into was that the servers thought my son was too (even though he was too young to be). We were charged several times for him as an individual on the plan. The problem was always corrected and most of the time in a friendly manner, but we sometimes recieved a look of disbelief. My son at 17 months is 34 inches tall and 35 pounds. He is not a chunky baby, he's actually quite fit, but just appears much much older then he is.
Our family is hoping to return to WDW in Jan '07, but I am afraid that people will question us even more at park entrences and dining establishments since he will then be 29 months and I anticipate even bigger. Disney's policy is that under 3 is free, but how do I handle it if they don't believe my child is under 3, even though he is? Any help will be appriciated!!!! |

It may sound outlandish, but you could always bring his birth certificate if they really don't believe you. But I would just politely explain that he is under three, cast members usually practice the belief that the customer is always right.

Re: People think my baby is older
My sister had a friend that would take a copy of her sons birth certificate to prove that he was under 3....He was a very long/tall baby. This worked for her when she got questioned.

You should be fine just telling them - if they don't believe you it's THEIR problem - you're the one telling the truth!
People should never feel bad when telling the truth! But, yeah - bring the birth certificate, so you can prove it if necessary - although, I'd hate it for you if you ever actually had to! That's just not right! :c)

Re: People think my baby is older
The birth certificate is a wonderful idea. Most people believed me or didn't question me last time, but there was one server at Hollywood and Vine. She was convinced I was stealing her tip from her and lying! I was so shocked, its not like I was trying to get one over on us. It took about 20 minutes for her to get our check fixed. I am a very patient person, but also like to avoid conflict!

Re: People think my baby is older
I also am adding to birth certificate group.
We've always had problems with my little brother. He just turned 13 in Jan, is 5'11", and wears a 14 shoe. Needless to say - he's always looked older than he is. My parents always had to correct the waitstaff and tell him that their (then) 9 year old wasn't 15. ![]()

Re: People think my baby is older
We have the same problem. DS is 2 1/2 and looks 4. When we got his birth certificate we also got a "registration card" that fits in a wallet. I keep it with me all the time, just in case. We didn't have any problems when were at WDW in October, no one even questioned us.

Re: People think my baby is older
When my oldest son was 2 1/2 we took him for the first time, (which has now been 6 years ago) he was 45bs and 42inches, we were never questioned. Althought I thought that we would have been...now my fear is since he's 8 and 5 ft tall and 100lbs that people will assume he is over 10 and be charged adult prices...
So you just wait!! They sure do grow fast!!! Have a blast!!

Re: People think my baby is older
I would carry a copy of his birth certificate and offer it to the server when you are seated. This will get it out in the open and out of the way before the meal is even served.

Re: People think my baby is older
I like the idea of a registration card.
And I can't believe the waitress acted that way millermouse. I tip very well, but I would have cut the amount it in half for that behavior or even not tipped at all. I think if you work anywhere where you are tipped, your additude and service should be worth the tip. |

Re: People think my baby is older
Oh I know your pain, I have two 12 year old boys who are each 5.8, way 150 lbs, speak in a rather adult baritone, and no one believes their age. So we shlepp around their birth certificates and that gives people really big eyes shut them up, lol.
