Lets talk about tipping...on arrival day..

okay we always have A LOT of tipping to do. I was curious as to what others thought. I do believe in tipping very much and like to be generous, but don't want to be overly generous.

What do you think of this?

The curbside check-in guy, when you are leaving for Disney (5) people - tip $20.00

The towncar driver - one way $10.00

Now there is the guy who takes the luggage from your town car - tip $5.00

the the guy that delivers the bags to your room - $10.00

Am I forgetting anyone?

Thanks all!!

Isn't this awful, but we've stopped tipping the curbside check-in guy more than $1 per bag. DH found out they are typically union workers, making a ton of money, and spend about 5-10 minutes with us. If they get $10 tip every ten minutes, that's $60 an hour for handling luggage from car to trolley, on top of a high wage. Is this wrong of us?

Wow. I had no idea. I always thought they were very underpaid and relied on tips?
I'd really like to leave my tips where they are most needed.
Last year when I tipped the curbside guy, he went in and got our boarding passes and everything. All we had to do was go to the plane from the curb.

I don't know, Buzz, that's what I was hoping you would tell me... He's got a friend who's working at a local airport in payroll, which is where he got the information from. Mickey?

We get our boarding passes at curbside, too. It's a wonderful service.

Don't forget Mousekeeping!!!!!!!!!!! I always print some cool envelopes before I go on www.pscalculator.com for the Mousekeeping staff! I usually leave a tip a day in the event that the regular is off on the day we leave and someone who was only working for the one day gets it!:)

Hmmm, well I guess it would be wise to tip these guys pretty well, since they are the last ones you see with your bags before getting on the plane for Disney.
I don't even know where I got my information from on how much these guys make. I guess it was just an assumption on my part.

Yes! never forget mousekeeping.
And something I learned last year is to leave a tip everyday, since you may have different mousekeepers during your stay.
I ALWAYS use to leave 1 big tip at the end of my stay- not very smart on my part - but hey I've learned.

As some of you are aware, we are from the UK, where tipping is not customary really, it is only done for good service, and although we have never recieved anything but good service at WDW the tipping came as a huge surprise, I could cringe at our early stays when we probably didnt tip at all, and if we did it probably was not nearly enough, it was only after befriending US guests and talking with staff that we realised what a terrible mistake we had made, we also used to leave just one big tip at the end of our stay but no longer do that we tip housekeeping every day, plus the bell boys, restaraunt staff, baggage handlers, everyone who everyone else tips in fact!!!!, the only one I still find strange is bar staff, I have noticed that customers leave a tip every time they buy a drink, even though the barman just pours, he hasnt brought the drink over or anything, I know the tip is fairly small in this circumstance, but on a 'pool' day with a couple of kids drinking vast amountsd of sodas doesnt this work out expensive. Please dont think we are mean this is just how it is here, we tip taxi drivers, hairdressers and waiting staff in restaraunts, and that is purely up to the individual whether they want to leave a tip, I know because I am a hairdresser, our average tip is £1.00 which is about $1.55, and some clients leave 50 pence which is about 65 cents, we have an American friend who is a barman at a WDW hotel and he said if a guest left 65 cents or a dollar fifty five he would give it them back!!!!!!!! Alot of WDW eating places and off property places give International guests a slip with the check to explain the customs of tipping and gives an idea of how much to leave which we think is a very good idea and saves the embarrassment especially to first time visitors.

What about this: We arrive at WL at say 10 am and our room is not ready but we get our bags unloaded from the car. We tip the guy (about a dollar a bag or a little more) who unloads our bags but what if he is not the guy who brings our bags to our room later. Do we also tip this guy a dollar or so per bag? What if we head out to the parks before our bags get to our room, are we leaving a guy hanging?

normally we tip $3.00 a day, I have to say that I use to tip more but after having a few rooms that were not cleaned very well we cut back. Once on check in we found a baby bottle that had been under the bed a while :(

I tend to tip $1 to $3 dollars a day for my family of three, $3 being for good service. We (I really mean I) try to keep the room clean and organized before we leave for the day (I have even been known to make the bed before we leave for the parks) so I think $3 is more than enough.

tinkerbell, that's nasty about the bottle under the bed!!
