Re: Packing tips

I really apreciate all these tips. No matter how hard I try, I struggle getting organized when it comes to packing. I need all the help I can get.

How far in advance do you begin packing?

Re: Packing tips

My DH informed me yesterday that he is already packed. Take a look at our countdown. How many men do you know that pack that early? Of course, he is as big a WDW goofball as those of us on here.
He also only has to pack for his pants, shirts, undies, shoes, socks and swim trunks.
I have to pack everything else on Dana's list. Times 4.

Re: Packing tips

If it was up to my husband we would pack an hour before going to the airport. I try to start packing the things we don't normally use (like ponchos and such) a couple of weeks before hand and pack clothes and all a day or so before. I wait to pack the hygiene stuff until the morning of after i brush my teeth. DH just throws his clothes in the direction of the luggage the night before and asks me to pack since I get mad if he does it an hour before.

Re: Packing tips

Yes, I'm fully aware of the weight limits. :D It's unfortunate, I'm not a light packer. LOL I like the space saver bags because then larger items (not necessarily heavy) will fit better, like beach towels.

Oops, sorry hrb, didn't see your second post. ;)

Huh? How are those bags helpful in saving space?

Re: Packing tips

Love looking at this thread... my advise, stuff you shoes with socks or something like that, always roll your shirts and lay pants out as flat as possible. it will take up less room. If you roll your jeans/pants it does take up more room - especially jeans.

Re: Packing tips

If you plan on being outside during the evenings, be sure to pack those gloves, hats and scarfs. The first time we went right after Thanksgiving all we had were jeans and t-shirts. Needless to say, we came with lots of souvenier clothing. We froze our little minnie ears off! That was the last time we got caught off guard. We always take jeans, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, scarfs and a blanket which mom sits on in her wheelchair. It gets quite frigid in the evenings. If you plan on doing Fantasmic, the seating is on a hill. If there is any type of breeze, it is quite cold, expecially if you are in the way of the water spray.

Pack the thermal underwear if you plan on doing the MVMCP.

The weather at that time is absolutely perfect. We're usually there at that time and it never rains, the temps are in the high 70's, the sun shines and it's not crowded at all. Wonderful.

Re: Packing tips

If your things are going to be packed for a long time. (ours are packed for around 48 hours before unpacking at Disney) a few sheets of Bounce Tumble Dryer Sheets between your clothes keep them smelling nice and fresh.

also Rolling your clothes stops them from getting creased

Re: Packing tips

I just buy larger suitcases and each of us takes a small carryon ( a tote bag). But you got to be careful. Suitcases can't be over 62" (length x width x height) OR the fee is $150. If it weighs more than 50lbs it's an $80.00 fee. So if you went over BOTH you'd pay $230.00. An extra suitcase is $25.00. The carryons can't weigh more than 40lbs or be more than 45 in or there's fines as well. I bought these gorgeous suitcases BUT just returned them because they were 63". That would have cost me $300. extra. Now, we'll just watch the weight & we'll be OK. We are packing the light shoes & wearing the sneakers. We are packing mix & match items and leaving out anything unnecessary so we'll have weigh room left for some souveniars. And Downy wrinkle release spray..it smells so fresh & gets rid of wrinkles so that you could get an extra wear out of a pair of jeans if you need to or freshen up.
