I am an odd packer, since I travel there is always a suitcase sitting in my bedroom. For any vacation I start picking up odds and ends as soon as purchased - of course, undergarments all new washed and put into the bag so I won't have to worry about it.

Since you ask, I could probably start tomorrow for a September trip.

I do too! Actually, we have 2 of them. (3 kids--we need lots of stuff!) We have all the toiletries we need in both of those so we're always ready for any trips.

I start putting things aside very early (sometimes right after I book!) but I don't actually pack until a few days out. I am like DT, I hate doing it too far in advance, because then I am repacking, and I don't always remember what I have or have not packed!!

I always buy all the kids new socks everytime we go. They just pack so much nicer. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this.

I have one park backpack packed at all times! It has disposable ponchos, a lanyard with a half dozen tradeable pins, lip gloss, antibacterial gel, 20 dollars in single bills and a pack of gum. When we actually are getting ready for the trip, I beef it up with other good stuff, like a little camera and ADR list, and throw it into the suitcase.

Start maybe the night before... and I'm lucky if I pack everything in time.

I usually pack for our first trip of the season about 5 days before. Then (since we go somewhere everymonth just about) I just recycle the same suitcase and items until the next season. I know, its lazy but effective. With 4 kids and working we don't have much time so I have to find ways to keep things quick.

I usually get the suitcase out about 1 month prior and leave it in the scrapbook room. I put in the new socks/underwear (we just HAVE to buy new socks and underwear for each trip). About 2-3 weeks out, depending on the time of year we go and the weather here in MO, I go ahead and start getting outfits together and ironing them. I then roll each shirt, short, jean, etc. and place them in the suitcase. I then gather all the necessities and put them in ziplock bags. We always buy new toiletries too so everything is is bagged up and laying in the suitcase.

About 2 days before we leave, I make sure I have everything. The morning that we leave, my DH waits for me to finish with the straight iron and hair dryer then it all gets packed up and loaded into the trunk. He drives me to work and then we hit the road as soon as I get off.

Now back to the subject. I make lists almost as soon as I book. We drive from RI with 2 kids so we need to make sure we have it all. Did I mention I pack for everyone! I think I will have to start making lists on the way home of the "Why didn't you pack this for me?'s" That may make life less stressful for me. I bought special packs for the car that are striclty for Disney trips to keep everyone busy, awake (peppermint gum is said to help) and happy. Last year I even premade food and will never do that again. Most of it went to waste b/c DH prefers to eat out. The suitcases come out about 1-2 months prior and I slowly pack things for each person. New socks and underware is always a must, it's just easier. The car gets washed, cleaned and packed the day before. And then DH comes home takes a nap after his long day at work and says "I'm wide awake now, should we just leave now?" I'm too excited to sleep and the kids have no objections and wait for our 30 min. discussion to end and we leave. When we arrive early after driving staight through we try to stay at different resorts.
