4th of July weekend

ok...don't laugh too hard, but we are looking to squeeze 1 more trip in before the baby comes in Sept. We are going in the 1st week of May, and our next possible time we could go is over the 4th of July weekend. Probably the 2nd-7th. The DW is fully informed that she will be doing the Donald waddle and will most likley be pretty uncomfortable (this was her idea and I was quite surprised!). What is the consensus of going during this time...more so for the crowds than anything. We will probably do a tour theme if we like the tour we are going on in May.
Any feedback will be great.
Thanks
B-

Re: 4th of July weekend

I've been during the second week of July, and I've sworn to every person I know that I will NEVER return during that time. There wasn't a line in sight that was less than a 2 hr wait. Not to mention the sucktastic heat/humidity that is July (this coming from a FL girl, born and raised). Denim shorts + sweat + walking = torture.

Good luck with that idea...

Re: 4th of July weekend

I am with Kippage here. We went last year for the 4th. My DS was to turn 3 on the 29th so we wanted to do one more trip before he was no longer free. I should have paid for him to go later when the crowds were smaller and the heat was not an issue.

Re: 4th of July weekend

Oh sorry to put such a downer on your plans but I have to agree with the above- the crowd levels when we went at that time were incredible- in fact that was the time when we were ushered out of the park as it had exceeded capacity. We also said never again in July- its the British school holidays and yours too I believe- maybe if DW wasnt expecting it wouldnt be so bad.
Others may disagree, but that was our experience of that month.

Re: 4th of July weekend

Still dealing with the same issues. It's peak season for traveling - kids are out of school everywhere. Not to mention it's still hot, which I'm sure won't help the comfort level for your DW. Completely honest... I'd avoid a summer trip all together if possible.

Re: 4th of July weekend

The last time I was there on the 4th of July they still did the fireworks show at (MGM) now DHS. It's the only day they did it. They use to have fireworks every night before Fantasmic show opened. I guess I just don't like change.

Re: 4th of July weekend

I missed the part about DW.

My DW was due with our 4th child last July 4th. She was due in October, so she was not as far along as your DW will be. While we survived and had some good memories.... I still would not do it again in July.

Re: 4th of July weekend

Yeah I just talked DW into going the 2nd week of June instead. Called DVC and wasn't an issue switching the weeks. So hopefully better! Thanks for all the feedback!

Re: 4th of July weekend

Wow, you guys are really scaring me. I'm going 7/6 - 7/14 because my DM and DS are both celebrating landmark birthdays that week(70th and 40th respectively) and wanted very much to celebrate at WDW. I fear that it will be an arduous vacation!

Re: 4th of July weekend

We haven't been during the 4th but we were there around the 9th one year and it's hot and crowded but we had a plan and had a good time. Get to the parks at open, take a break in the afternoon, and head back in the evening.

Re: 4th of July weekend

We've beem in mid-July and I've made the decision to try and never go again during this particular month!! It was crowded, hot, and humid. Last year we went in August and although it was still hot the crowd level had dropped considerably and it was much more enjoyable.

Re: 4th of July weekend

Never ever again! I am SO HAPPY for you you changed your dates!

The first year we lived in Florida (2005) my brother, Mom and Dad flew in . . . long weekend . . . we went the Thurs-Mon and OMG!! The heat, the people, the heat THE HEAT!

It was so crowded they CLOSED MK at 12 noon! They would only let people in as people left . . . 3 left, 3 got in!! I swear it was that much hotter cuz the park was at capacity!

The fireworks at nite are to die for . . . but other then that avoid it at all costs!!

But that's not to say, you couldn't do other things . . . like TREAT DW to a lushish spa treatment at the GF!! or just sit and relax by the pool! Sometimes a good WDW world vacation doesn't even include the theme parks!!

PS. I went last year too end of July, which wasn't as bad as 4th of July, but I won't go again in July. When you are spoiled with going during the "off season" it's VERY hard to go during peak and in the heat!!
