spirit airlines

They are raising their baggage prices on July 1st. If you have a flight with them booked and have not purchased your checked luggage space, then get over there before 7/1. It's going up to $25 for the first bag and $5 for the second bag regardless if you purchase it online or at the airport. They are no longer going to give you a discount for paying in advance online. Thank goodness I paid mine already...I would be paying $120 just for the luggage and not the $40 I paid....insane if you ask me. ...then there is the picking your seat cost of $30 for me and my DD. That's an extra $150 for a flgiht for two people plus the cost of the airfare....I think we are going to be forced into driving. Airfare with all these extra costs is going to run me more than a drive to orlando....insane.

Re: spirit airlines

It is insane . . . I think they are making it up as they go along.

I was booking airfare last Wed to fly to NJ for Thanksgiving . . . lucky for me Continential's site wasn't working right . . . I logged on last night and for the 3 of us the tickets were $300 less!!! Same flight I was looking at Wed?

Imagine if I had booked on Wed I would have been fuming!!

Re: spirit airlines

I think we have decided we are driving down. Even if gas was $4.00 per gallon, it would be cheaper than flying for the three of us..............something has gotta give soon. Everything just keeps going up and up and up with no end in sight!

Well, you can change a reservation with Spirit airlines if you find something cheaper on their website - but you have to pay somehting like $50.00 per ticket for the change.

Re: spirit airlines

I am sooooo glad I saw this and read it, I've booked a trip for my family of 4 plus my in-laws. So now I'm looking at another $120 just for luggage to and from Orlando - THIS IS CRAZY!! I'm not sure if you're aware, but they are also charging to choose your seat assignment...This is all just NUTS!! There really isn't a cheap airfare anymore.

Southwest still seems to be priced well but I don't know how long that will last.

One thing that is helping Southwest is they bought 2/3 of their oil contract at only 50 bucks a barrel. The other third is a much higher rate. I don't know when they will be forced to pay the 135 ish per barrel.

$50 per person is the change fee...after you get done paying all that, you mine as well walk..lol

seriously, people are not going to be able to afford to fly at this rate and will just drive down.
Airfare = $196 (round trip for 1 person)
Luggage = $60 (per person)
Seating = $15 (per person)
$271 a person for a two hour flight??? Heck, I'll drink a case of Red bull and drive it straight through next time

I know what you mean!! We're in NC now which is half the distance we used to be when we lived in NY, but airfare is getting up there even for our short flight.

I'll have a six pack of Java Monster and see you on the road!
