Orlando airport tips.

We are flying to Orlando in JULY amnd I was wondering if there were tricks to luggage claim, picking up car rental etc that anyone might have. We are flying Southwest and renting from Alamo, arriving around noon. There will be twelve of us and I want to make arriving as smooth as possible so we can hit the parks QUICKER!

Luggage claim and car rental are no problem at MCO. Alamo is on-site now so it's even better, you used to have to take a shuttle to the Alamo rental area.

I do have one suggestion when you leave the airport take the South Exit (it's faster than taking the north exit IMHO) and don't forget to bring change for the tolls, before you know it you'll begin seeing signs for WDW (it takes about 1/2 hr. to get to the resort). Have Fun!! :D

I find that by the time you take the tram to the main terminal and walk down to baggabe claim, that you have just a few minutes wait usually for your luggage. After we get our luggage, we go down to the car rental counter (elevators to floor1) and get our car. The car lot is just outside the terminal. Within an hour of my plane's arrival, I am usually pulling up to my WDW resort!

You will need $2-$2.25 for tolls using the South Exit of the airport which puts you on the Greenway to WDW. Be sure to have $1 bills and change for the toll booths. There is no attendant at the tool booth that charges $.25.

My suggestion would be to send the people renting the cars down to the rental car counter. The Alamo line has been known to be very long at times, and someonw might as well be waiting while the others are getting the bags.

Reading the advice about taking the South exit reminds me of a funny story when we flew in with another couple a few years ago for a week at WDW.

The wife in other couple we were with lived in Florida several years while in college so she acted kind of like our leader. My DH was driving out of MCO and read the BIG sign that read something like WDW resorts/Magic Kingdom Exit ?? (I don't remmber), my DH said "This is it, I take this exit, right??" Paula (who had the map) said no, keep going. Like a well trained husband he said okay and kept driving. Needless to say we were about half way to Tampa when my DH said hey look guys, we are about 35 miles from Tampa!! Hmmm, do we see a problem here?? We sat through two accidents and made it a two to three hour trip to our resort.

Thanks for all the great tips! Having money for the tolls is something that I would not have thought of. Is the airport hard to find things in or is it well marked?

I feel like it is easy to find. We always have a map and can get where we need to go.

Orlando airport is fairly easy to navigate. Since 9/11 security for your return flight is quite delayed.

One trick to the Orlando airport is to go to the very front (the fartherest walk -- just a few yards) of the rail transport to the main terminal. There is a glass front with a seat and it's very cool for kids and most adults to ride in the front!:) :) :)

Alextina, I remember those days when Alamo was offsite...it was VERY inconvenient taking the shuttle back and forth to the terminal. I even stopped using them, until I learned here, on these boards, that they are now actually IN the terminal! That makes a big difference, even though you wouldn't think it does. It seriously wastes SO MUCH TIME having to wait for a shuttle, load onto the shuttle with all of your luggage, drive 5-10 minutes to the location, unload, wait in line, wait for your car, etc. You waste almost an hour of your day.....NEVER AGAIN!

you know what's a good idea when dealing with your luggage? putting stickers or some kind of luggage strap that you will easily identify on your luggage. my fiance and i did that with our luggage and it reduced waiting for our luggage tremendously.

You could put a big Mickey sticker on each bag...

Just returned 2 hours ago! If you get a quicksilver membership through Alamo it will save the wait in the long line! One woman told us she had been in line over an hour! Quicksilver allows you to preregister all your pertinent info online and the car/van is ready when you arrive. They didnt have the Quicksilver very well identified so I had to ask where it was(a different building where you actually pickup the car.) Saved us at least an hour of waiting!Ill file a fulltrip report as soon as I have the time!

Markypooh, I am so glad you posted this!! I have an Alamo minivan that I got a deal too hard to pass up...even better than the Dollar $199 deal!!! So I need to know how to join the Quicksilver club and is it free to join??? I am sure I could find this info on the website, right? Oh, last question...was there a separate line only dedicated for QUICKSILVER members? I know Alamo lines are ALWAYS the longest!!!:dazed

Details Details!

We are renting from Alamo and have joined Quicksilver. Where is this other line - another building? How far/long of a walk is it from the main terminal? Directions? I will send DH over there while I am getting the luggage!

Thanks!
