Yeah, my Grandparents did the RV thing too. I guess this will be more of a retirement goal for D and I, I guess it's a little lofty for two late 20-somethings with full-time jobs. Might not work so well.

I use to live in Lake Charles and my Dad still does! It is beautiful there.

Back on topic ~ We love to travel! Hard to pick a favorite place. But here goes...

We love Florida - #1 place for us because there is so much to do for the whole family.

Love cruising ~ anywhere! (but especially with Disney)

Love the Delaware Beaches!

Haven't been, but would love to go to Hawaii!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

One of my favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska aboard RCL's Radiance of the Seas.

We also enjoy Destin, Florida.

And Las Vegas... great shopping. As in NYC.

Oh, and we are big skiers, so we've travelled to Lake Tahoe (my personal favorite), Breckenridge, and Vail. If we have an early spring break, we try to take a ski trip. It's very crowded in the winter months.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

I grew up (for the most part) around W Palm Bch. So, the beach does not impress me. We go, occasionally, late in the evening to walk along the shoreline & people watch.

When our children was young, we alternated our vacations with Disney, NC & TN. Of course, all our vacations was revolved around pleasing our children. They are grown now with children of their own. One is even a grandpa!

Our vacations usually revolve around us now. lol When we don't go to Disney, we love to travel around the US. We like to take the backroads. We have been on both coasts of Florida, over to Louisiana, up to Ohio & most central & eastern states. We love historic sites & old towns. We bought a travel trailer last summer so we take that out about once a month. Georgia has the best state parks! We are hoping to travel more in about 2 years & 8 months. I'm counting down the days. lol

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Hands down... Hawaii. Without a doubt, the most relaxing, amazing beautiful place that I have ever been...Yes-even more than WDW. It is very gorgeous, the people are so kind, there is a lot to do there-if you want. I am not a nature person at all, because I hate to get all hot and sweaty (do that enough in the south just walking to check the mail)... I loved every second of that trip. So much, that we went back two years later...Loved that trip even more...

I would highly suggest it, and saving your money so that you can experience the helicopter flight over the volcanoes... Like nothing else I have ever seen. Maybe it did help that I saw a minor eruption...

We love New York city and a close second favourite is Las Vegas. Here in England, Cornwall is the most beautiful place and my home county Yorkshire is beautiful too with its wild and rugged moorland.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

As a child we visited California and did the Highway 1 trip, San Fran, LA, Disneyland and I'd love to do that trip with my family now too.

The Colorado Rocky Mountains in the summertime, we've done this trip several times, as a child and with my own family. Silverton, Keystone, Estes Park, Colorado Springs..all have something different to offer and all are just beautiful. Keystone was probably offered us the most variety and loved the most.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Beautiful beaches, Mayan ruins explorations, lots of side trips available, snorkling and the ferry to Cozamel.

Hilton Head. Beautiful area, also visited Charleston, SC and Savannah GA that trip...and on our way home we went to St. Augustine FL...so much history in those cities and really enjoyable in a laid back way.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

My favorite Place besides WDW that I have ever went on would have to be our cruise to Jamica in 97. It was so beautiful and Relaxing. It was also my very first cruise. After one cruise you'll want to go back again and again. Just like it is WDW!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Maui is our special place - we have been 3 times,

I like Gatlinburg, TN

I have been to Cape Cod 2 times as a child and would love to go back there.

There are really so many US places I would like to go. I much prefer to do this than travel abroad - just more in my comfort zone.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

As we are currently living our dream and traveling the country in our RV with our kids, it is tough to choose our favorite destination. We are on our 6th year full-timing. We have been to 30 states so far, around 12 National parks and monuments. We have lived in the northeast and the deep south. This lifestyle has lead us to so many opportunities we never could have imagined. We have met so many people and been exposed to many different cultures.

I am cherishing this time with children and would say that we are a very close family as a result.

We don't consider any of it a vacation as it is our life. If I had to choose a vacation, we spent 6 summers going to OBX in NC with extended family and renting a house on the beach for a week. The kids really enjoyed it and I love the beach.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

My Dad was great when I was growing up. Always taking us on a nice summer trip each year!

I would say: Hawaii, Bermuda, Cape Cod, Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Hilton Head, SC, Rhode Island (Newport-I was born there! ) London was great too.

There is a lot of great and beautiful places to explore . . . one day!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Okay, I'm married to the military, so keep that in mind, but my all-time favorite non-Disney vacation was to Washington, DC. We were there for 10 days and couldn't see everything we wanted to. When the kids get older and can appreciate it, we are definitely going back! (and using DVC points to stay!)

I also love NYC and San Diego.

We lived in Rapid City, SD, for five years and absolutely LOVE the Black Hills! Just make sure you go during the summer, because the place shuts down during the winter!
