For me, our California 1 road trip had to be the best trip I have ever experienced. We started in Sacramento, headed to wine country, then down the coast to San Fran, Carmel (may future home), Cambria, Santa Barb, LA, Disneyland.
That is a beautiful area to explore and vacation. We lived in the Wine country for 15 years and always had a blast exploring.

My favorite spot to vacation is Sylt. Who would have thunk?

Well, not to many free-roaming buffalo in downton Toronto....you'd have to point yourself west and drive 2 days to get to me. The buffalo are waiting - (we even have an albino one in the herd).

One of the reasons that we did DVC is that we tried a bunch of places (we were in RCI), but as a family we really only loved WDW. Then we went to the Outer Banks, North Carolina and it really clicks with us.

The last 3 times we rented vacation homes on the beach. So relaxing. We prefer to stay on the north part of the island (Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla). Southern Shores and Duck are close enough to the touristy Nags Head area but far way enough to feel like you have some space.

I prefer to sit on my butt for the entire time, but if you need to do something there is quite a bit to do. My wife and her cousin love to sightsee and shop, and I love to eat.

I loved parts of my post-College trip to England & Scotland in the mid-80's, and I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to return. I love the history and just the general feel of the place.

I've only been west of the Mississippi once in my life... and I'm eager to check out that part of the country.

We're hoping to make it to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 - luckily we've got LOTS of relatives who we can crash in on.

I am a Vegas freak as much as I am a Disney Freak.

I have been to Vegas at least once a year since I turned 21! This will be the first year that I don't make it there!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

We went to Playa Del Carmen last year near Cancun in Mexico. We stayed at an IberroStar resort. Hands down the best place we have ever stayed. ( outside of Disney of course!)
Great pool, great beach , bars and resort. In fact we only left the resort two times - once to shop and once to snorkel.
Very relaxing and a great time. We hope to return in 2009!

We're as far from Toronto as we are from Florida - it's a big country.

I could only find a picture of Blizzard (Native Name: Ska) as a baby. He's a big boy now.

We really love the Caribbean and always go for the all inclusive resorts. The Dominican Republic and Aruba were both incredible. The Bahamas was ok. We love road trips to the Carolinas and NY too. Las Vegas was great and we love diffierent parts of west coast as well. We just love to travel period.

While I was in college out in Boston my friends and I would take a ferry over to Martha's Vineyard on the weekends. They have sweet little towns, fantastic lobster and the best coffee shop called, "Get a Life Cafe' " (which the name sutied me just fine back then) you could sit in it all day. I love Edgertown on the Vineyard, its just perfect to me!

We also love the Outer Banks.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Some of our favorite non Disney trips have been Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, and Chicago.
I have also been on little trips around Ohio and we usually go to Cedar Point every year for a get away.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

If it isn't Disney, than it is usually cruising for us. We have never been on a Disney cruise as we are very happy with Carnival. Plus Carnival is SOOOO much cheaper which means more vacations!!

I am not the type of person who goes on vacation to visit family, but last year we crashed my husband's cousin's family trip in Gulf Shores, AL. Please note that I live 5 minutes from the beach in FL. I thought to my self- Family and Beach for 7 nights, horrible idea! I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!! This year we were invited back, so off we go the first week in August!

I do love going to the Florida Keys- nothing beats Mallory Square at night in Key West to watch the sunset and the people who come out to perform!

Spent 8 nights in Vegas just after 9/11 (before I knew how to play blackjack) and had a blast. It was a bit too long, but I would love to go back again for a long weekend.

Mexico, oh how I love Mexico. I think I have become part Mexican!! 3 months after my husband and I started dating, we spent 8 nights at the Melia Cancun Resort. It is the nicest resort I have ever seen!!! That was in 1999 and I still remember our room number: 2021!

Being a mom of a 2 and 3 year old, I have put major vacations on hold. I would love to go to Europe, but I guess that will wait until my kids are a bit older. I want to bring them along, but they need to be old enough to enjoy it.

I love the Caribbean! The relaxed atmosphere is so intoxicating!

More importantly, right now- I just want to go to Disney!! I am so fortunate to live close enough that it is convenient, but far enough away that it is a real vacation!!

We own our own business and my husband works his butt off so vacations are very important to us. It is the only time we can all be together without any interruptions!

You have to live life now!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

What a great thread! I love going on vacation...anywhere! Here are the places I've been.

My very first trip on a plane was to FRANCE! I was a Junior in High School...we took a 2 week Easter trip to Paris and the South of France (including Nice, Nimes, Monacco, Monte Carlo, Arles, Avignon, Cannes) to date, it was my FAVORITE trip!!!

Cancun - twice
Bermuda - two (or three??) times on a Celebrity Cruise (Celebrity Horizon)
San Juan/St. Thomas/St. Martin - cruise on Carnival Celebration
Jamaica - once (LOVED Sandals Dunn's River!!!!!!!!)
Nassau, Bahamas - Atlantis - 5 times...LOVE LOVE LOVE it there!!!!!!!!!! I think it's my favorite vacation spot EVER!!!!!
Las Vegas - 5 times
Virginia - once
Pocono Mountains - countless times
Harrisburg/Hershey/Lancaster PA - many times
Allentown PA (Dorney Park weekend trips!) - many times
Jersey Shore - many times (just got back from Atlantic City and the beach this weekend!)
Philadelphia - twice
Boston - twice
Rhose Island/Newport - once
Los Angeles/Anaheim - twice (and I didn't go to DL!!!!)

We just got back from a cruise aboard the Norwegian Spirit in April. It was my family's first time on a cruise together! The kids and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it! DH wasn't so crazy about it, but I'll get him cruising again one of these years. Although I REALLY want to try Disney, I am thinking Royal Caribbean or Carnival will be my next family Cruise.

Since we are in budget mode now, we are taking one big trip this year to WDW (the annual trip). There are MANY places I want to go in the next couple of years...Hawaii are on my list! And since our kids are so small, Europe is out of the question until they get older and we don't have to drag them around.

I can't wait until all of our future vacations!
