This is where we stay as well, Corolla for five years and Southern Shores for 1 year . We haven't been there in 2 years now.

I totally agree, we could chill if we wanted or do stuff if we wanted.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

We go to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge every year because we just love the mountains. I have been going there every year since I was a baby and have just continued that tradition with my kids.
We go everywhere on this side of the US. We like to do something different everytime...small trips and big.

I've had to make up for a severe lack of travel before the age of 18. Niagara Falls is so close we head up there A LOT. We also have a lot of family all over the US, so we usually go places where we can lodge for free, ie. St. Louis, Chicago, Seattle.

DH has been EVERYWHERE. His parents own a travel agency. It is extremely rare when I have been somewhere that he hasn't been before. Luckily, he hasn't been to WDW since 1985, so I will have the upper hand there.

Me too Llama!
My dad is going to be working there during the Olympics (Overseeing Bell's communications) and my brother, DH, and I are planning to crash on him during those 2 weeks! lol
My mom can't go for the full time though, which will be tough on them - my parents are inseperable lovebirds

I grew up in the mountains of NC, so going there is not only a getaway for us, but it's going home. We also NC's coast--especially Oak Island.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

My DS12 and I spent 4 days in June checking out Chicago. There was so much to do, and we can't wait to go back. We even made it to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field...it was really cool!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

I live too close to DL, haven't been there in 9 years! Before that, went 3 or 4 times a year and got burned out. Now, I have little ones that haven't been there and really want to go, so it's like a brand new trip for all of us since so much has changed (they were still building Cal. Adv. last time I was there).

Favorite non-Disney vacation spots: LAS VEGAS!!! So much to do, so much to see. And nowadays, so kid friendly. A great road trip, we go at least twice a year. It's just a nice little 4 hour drive through the desert. Also love Magic Mountain - about an hour north of DL, I think - it's about an hour and a half from me.

San Diego is also very beautiful. Especially Mission Beach. Anyone coming to SoCal and looking for something else to do after DL, definately take the drive south to San Diego.

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Nice thread Rlander.

We love Cambria too. Walking down along Moonstone Beach.

But where do you stop when you're talking about things to do when visiting California ???

Joshua Tree Monument , San Jacinto Mtn Tramway, a quick trip to San Diego or a simply a day at Long Beach with lunch at that seafood restaurant on the harbour ( the one that looks a bit like the Coronado or the Grand Floridian ! ).

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

My favorite non-Disney place is Destin Florida, because I can sit on the most beautiful beach where white sand and emerald waters surround you. In a word, aahhhhh.
