Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

Everyone (well almost) loves Disney and most of us head there for our vacations. But there is a whole big world out there to explore. Where else do you love to travel to? Let us know what you like to do beside Disney.

For me, our California 1 road trip had to be the best trip I have ever experienced. We started in Sacramento, headed to wine country, then down the coast to San Fran, Carmel (may future home), Cambria, Santa Barb, LA, Disneyland.

We have done Hampton Beach, NH a few times.
It's just a relaxing bech trip, not to exciting, but very relaxing.

We have also been on many cruises to the carribean.

And to the White Mountains (beautiful!)

We need to head out west someday.

I have been telling this to Sharon for 22 years! We have only been 2 places for vacation (baring visiting friends for a long weekend). We went to Las Vegas back in the early 90's, and the Caribbean on a cruise for part of our honeymoon (of course there was the second week at Disney). I Would love to travel and see the world or at least the rest of our beautiful country, but she will just not hear of it, and separate (2 vacations is just not in the cards, besides I have to be there to keep her somewhat in check at WDW)

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

One of our most favorite non-disney vacation spots is myrtle beach!!! We love it down there.

We also did a Carribean cruise for our honeymoon and enjoyed that too.

For years as a kid we used to go to Cape Cod, Mass too and that's another beautiful area!! (we always stayed in West Dennis)

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

We took a long drive down the coast from RI to FL once and stopped at several places along the way. We saw many lovely places that I would love to go back and visit again. Savannah was a highlight, as was Ocean Isle Beach.
We also went out to Vegas and rented a minivan and drove all around the Southwest for 2 weeks. I HIGHLY recommend that. We saw all the big sights out there, and even went to Disneyland.

But cruising will always be our favorite vacation. It's just so romantic for us. Bermuda is our favorite destination (that's where we are in my avatar).

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

We love cruises - it's so stress free. After years in the Caribbean, we've stretched our wings and just returned from a Mediterranean Cruise - amazing!

As of now our favourite place to be is Austria. Love everything about it. We're thinking of doing two weeks in Italy next year. Just a taste of that country wasn't enough.

Closer to home - a trip to British Columbia to see my sister is always nice!

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

I love love love spending a week every year on the southern coast of Maine with my mom. There's just nothing more relaxing than that!

But I've always been a Britain and Europe girl, through and through. Had the opportunity to live in London and Geneva for a few years and became addicted to the ease of travel thoughout that area: wake up in England, have lunch in France, stop for dinner in Switzerland, and book into your hotel in Italy... .

France. I've been in the north and the south and loved them both.
I love to excitement of touring European cities - there is so much history.

I grew up in Hilton Head, SC so it's not only going to the beach for me it's going home as well so I love it there.

We also love going up to the NC Mountains in the fall and winter. We like to go to Junlasuka, Cherokee, Ashville, Lake Lure etc..

Re: Favorite NON-DISNEY vacation spots

This is one of my favorite subjects and we very rarely get to talk about non-Disney vacationing here so I am so glad you brought this topic up Rlander!

Daniel and I LOVE LOVE LOVE California. We've been all over Southern California but Palm Springs was one of our favorite places in the southern area. We both absolutely agreed that Big Sur, Monterey, and Carmel were our favorite places we've ever been in the world! The natural beauty, diversity, local everything, and just the most gorgeous untouched 'nature' we've ever experienced. We've been so sad to see all the fires in Big Sur.

I used to travel to London every year, the last time I went was '02. I love London but I started to feel like I had experienced enough there so I haven't been back in 6 years.

I love Venice, Italy but haven't been there in 9 years, and my other favorite place I visited in Europe was southern Germany because I loved seeing all the castles and old towns & architechture.

Tokyo, Japan is DEFINATELY our future travel goal. I am DYING to see those gorgeous cherry blossoms in Spring, all the ornate Japanese gardens, and of course Tokyo Disneyland. My other travel dream is an African safari.

Otherwise, I've really been into the idea of like RVing across our country. I want to see all the American sights that neither Daniel nor I have ever seen; like the Grand Canyon, the interesting areas of Route 66, Chicago, I want to see some buffalo roaming free somewhere, and I want to go white water rafting in Colorado too.

Oh Bella, you HAVE to! That was our honeymoon. We drove the whole GORGEOUS coast of Highway 1 from Monterey down to Los Angeles; stayed in a cabin in the redwoods, saw sea lions in their natural environment just chillin' on the coast, Carmel itself is just an undescribable beauty, Moneterey Bay has like the BEST aquarium in the country, and even when you get more south like Pismo Beach is adorable and Malibu has awesome things to see too. [then you can just conveniently slide down to Disneyland ]

Seriously, Rlander and Daisee will tell you... traveling Highway 1 is like nothing you'll experience anywhere else. AMAZING!

(and you have to see Pfeiffer Beach too, the most gorgeous natural rock formations and beach I've ever seen)

My aunt and uncle recently retired, sold their house (kept their summer cottage, though), and travel in their RV most of the year! I wonder if that would be a little too close for comfort, but they love it
