Spirit Airlines.
If you've traveled on Spirit Airlines before let me know how your experince was. We only fly on Continental so I am used to all of their rules, procedure, how the planes are, etc.
This is the first time I am flying on Spirit and I want to know the scoop. Carry on luggage? Is their policy one carry-on, one personal item too? I am going to have a SMALL weekend bag & I was going to try to bring a purse big enough to fit my laptop in. I always get away with that on Continental but I wasn't sure about Spirit. How is the boarding procedure, do they call by rows or is it like a cattle call? What was this mess about me having to pay money to choose my own seat? I left my seat empty because I didn't want to pay to choose one, if I read correctly I can go on their website 24 hrs before to choose a seat & check in for free, right? How are the planes, are the seats comfortable? Is there one section that's more comfortable than others? Thank you. ![]()

Re: Spirit Airlines.
We flew to WDW twice on Spirit out of AC. The big front seats are more comfortable but not worth paying more IMHO. I can't compare because I am not a frequent flyer. The first time our flight was delayed. The second time everything went as scheduled. I brought a carry on and a big purse that had a binder and my smaller purse inside and I had no problems. Picking our seats were free when we did it 24 hrs in advance. we did it for the way home at the Poly desk. The last time we had to pay for all checked baggage, but it was cheaper if you do it in advance. Sorry I'm not that travel savvy but I hope it helps. Enjoy your trip.

You know I love it - they have a great website spiritair.com. Check it out! The seats are comfy and the flight attendents are great. We have been on serveral flights where they did the whole instruction thing like they were doing a standup comedy routine - it helped to ease your nerves a bit if you are scared to fly.

Re: Spirit Airlines.
Always fly Spirit, never had a problem until this year. They're charging for seat assignments and baggage and changing flight times. I prepaid for seats for DH and I for our August trip, everything got screwed up, was a big mess, I got very angry. I ended up paying an additional $5 for my seat, which disappeared from my reservation...UGH, just thinking about it makes me mad. Anyway, in the end, I decided that I will never again, after our August and December trips fly with Spirit.
One suggestion, double check your reservations prior to going to the airport.

Re: Spirit Airlines.
Dh flys spirit every week. You can take one carry on plus a laptop bag. If you want a specific seat you do have to pay. Otherwise when you check in they will assign you a seat. Dh never has any problems. He likes flying with Spirt better than some of the other airlines. Also a lot of the time, you can get the big leather seats in front for less money than the regular leather seats. We fly Spirit alot. They have really good deals.
Dh pays about 140.00-160.00 rt from Ft Myers to Detroit. That is really good considering the prices other airlines are charging. If you have more questions you can pm me.

Re: Spirit Airlines.
If you have never flown out of AC Airport, you are in for a real treat. Parking was always basically at the front door - never more than a minute or 2 walk from the furthest spot in the parking lot. YES! No shuttles! I hear they now have a parking garage and am hoping it is still a quick walk to the main building. I have not flown Spirit for over a year but know that for my trip in Dec I had to pay in advance for luggage. For carry-ons DH always takes the laptop and I take a back pack with a change of clothes (just in case) and throw my purse in there too. I keep a few $$ and ID in my pocket. I just like keeping it to the minimum when possible. We also paid in advance for seats because we do want to sit next to one another on the flight and if we wait and let Spirit assign our seats there is always the possibility we will be sitting at opposite ends of the plane. This is not a bad thing - just not what we wanted to do for this vacation. Due to the current state of affairs Spirit has already changed the times of both flights - down and back - twice. We are ok with the times right now, but I am hoping they don't make anymore changes. By and large, our experience with Spirit has always been good - courteous, friendly flight attendants.
