Would you go???

ok, let's be rational for a second... (I know- it is hard when we are thinking about Disney)...But when it comes to travel to WDW...
My husband has a business trip to WDW coming up during election week...
We just went for a week in March, and we have been for 6 years in a row.

We have the opportunity to go, but here is what else is going on...
We want to put our house up for sale soon to move closer to my children's school, and hubby's work. If we move, money will be tight. However, we think that we can save about $400 a month in gas if we move closer to school...

So, hotel (which is the Dolphin) would be paid for, we would just have to do tickets as well as food... which we could go easy on, and not do the dining plan...

What would you do??? Would you go? Or save the money for a longer trip in March, or go somewhere else in March??? Help!

Re: Would you go???

Honestly, there are few opportunities to go to WDW with free room. I would probably go for the free room, then take it easy for the next year.

Free hotel...most likely slower time of the year....this is a tough one...I would definitely go. There will only be election news on TV so you will need something else to do.

Re: Would you go???

hummmmm, in order to have my husband with me and not in meetings, I have voted for staying home until March and saving the pennies.
I guess I am the odd man out, but I am the oldest here and obviously the wisest

Re: Would you go???

This was a tough one for me, too, but I opted for the longer stay in March. I guess it depends on how old your children are but I would hate to take my high schooler out of school. I was just there this past March as well and I thought the weather was great, crowds were light and it was just soooooooo enjoyable.

He knows already, oh hahahaha. And anyway, he'd probably be relieved, because less time in the parks means more free time to GOLF (bleccccchh -- now where is that "boring" smiley when you need it?).

Re: Would you go???

We just did something similar to this (partway through the TR now). My DW had a business convention in Orlando on a Thurs - Sat, so we got family members to watch our kids, and I tagged along to the convention, and then we stayed a few days to enjoy WDW just the two of us.

Our kids are not in school yet, so that was one different factor, plus we already have another trip planned, so we got APs which overall saved us some money.

Re: Would you go???

I think my opinion would be different, if you weren't going in March and had a tradition of going each March. If money is tight, you are moving and you have school - a trip to WDW could be too much. I know, that probably makes me a heratic, but I have learned that most MBers have a wide stripe of practicality. Remember the "cheapskate thread with a bazillion posts..."

All that being said, it far easier to say, than to do...

Re: Would you go???

If it helps any at all... My kids are in 3rd and 1st grade. They are in a pretty competitive private school where taking them out of school might be a problem (just in terms of making up work)... They love Disney, and looked at us as if we had 3 heads when we told them that we might be going to WDW WITHOUT THEM... they were not quite sure how to react.

And, we might or might not go in March... We might go somewhere else-like Washington, DC, etc... Help! Keep the thoughts coming... Thanks!

Re: Would you go???

I definitely said go in Oct/November. The weather is gorgeous then. The parks aren't nearly as busy. March is usually so busy. I would absolutely take advantage of the free room. Please let us know what you decide!

Re: Would you go???

OK, after mulling this over, I say GO. After all, once you move you will be saving $400.00 a month in gas. That's an extra $100.00 a month AT THE VERY LEAST that you can put into your DISNEY ACCOUNT. In one year, you could have $1,200.00 saved for your next Disney trip. {You could have twice that amount IF you put away $200.00 a month}

Re: Would you go???

I would wait and go in March. Even with the free room, you would be watching your spending, especially with moving and all. That kind of worry would take the fun away from a WDW vacation. Besides, if things get tighter after the trip was over, you might regret the money you spent.

As a teacher, I am not a fan of kids missing school. I just think it sends the wrong message, especially when I am asked to send school work (aka busy work). It's not like there's not enough time off of school anyways.

Re: Would you go???

I voted for go now...

It will be a completely different type of trip for you and the kids since your husband will be in meetings. You can explore the parks at a different pace since you'll be alone with them or you can even do things that you haven't done before. On the other hand, if you leave the kids behind it will be so relaxing for you!! You can go to the spa, read a book in France and even have a nice romantic dinner with hubby in Canada.

Either way, I see it as a trip to Disney the sooner the better.
